OnePlus: Disconnect a Wi-Fi Direct Connection

Wi-Fi Direct on your OnePlus phone keeps running in the background even after a file transfer or screen mirroring session is finished. As long as one paired device stays linked, the feature does not switch off by itself and can quietly drain battery or block a new pairing attempt.

Turn Off Wi-Fi Direct auf OnePlus

Wi-Fi Direct lets your OnePlus phone connect straight to another Wi-Fi Direct-enabled device without a router in between. Once a session ends, many users assume the feature turns off automatically. It does not: the connection stays active until you disconnect it manually or turn off Wi-Fi entirely.

This matters for two reasons. First, an active Wi-Fi Direct link can prevent a second device from pairing with your phone. Second, keeping the radio active for peer-to-peer connections uses more power than a phone sitting in standard Wi-Fi standby.

Where to disconnect Wi-Fi Direct

Go to Open the SettingsTap on Wi-Fi & networkTap on Wi-FiTap on Wi-Fi preferencesTap on Wi-Fi Direct. Here you see every device that is currently or previously connected. Tap the connected device and confirm with OK to end the session.

If you only want to stop discovery without breaking an active file transfer, wait until the transfer completes first. Turning off Wi-Fi entirely also disables Wi-Fi Direct, but that removes your regular network connection as well.

Frequently asked questions

No. Ending a session under Wi-Fi Direct only closes the peer-to-peer link. Your normal Wi-Fi network connection stays untouched.
