Enable Vibration in Silent Mode
Switching your Oppo to silent mode also kills the vibration, so you miss calls and messages without any signal at all. ColorOS does not have a separate vibrate mode like stock Android, so silent and vibrate are tied together unless you change one setting. Once you know where to look, you can keep your phone quiet but still feel it buzz.
Show Connection Speed in Status Bar
If you keep opening the data usage screen just to check how fast your connection is, Oppo can show that number right next to the signal icon instead. On Coloros this real-time network speed indicator is switched off by default, so the status bar only displays signal strength and battery. Turning it on adds a live Mbps or KB/s reading that updates while you browse or stream.
Forget a Saved Wi-Fi Network
If your Oppo phone keeps reconnecting to an old Wi-Fi network with a wrong password or a router you no longer use, it is still sitting in the saved network list. ColorOS holds on to every network you have ever joined until you remove it yourself, which can cause slow reconnects or a jump to the wrong access point when two networks share a similar name.
Turn Always-On Display On or Off
If your Oppo screen stays completely black when locked, or notifications never appear on it, the Always-On Display setting is likely involved. This feature can show time, date and battery level permanently or on a schedule, and on newer ColorOS versions also notification icons. Whether it is active, and how much it shows, depends on a toggle that is easy to overlook in the display settings.
Personal Hotspot: Change Name, Password and Band
Your Oppo phone activates a personal hotspot with a generic name and a default password, which is fine for a quick test but risky for daily use. If you want other people to recognize your hotspot easily or you need a stronger password, you have to adjust these settings yourself.
Turn Touch Sounds On or Off
If your Oppo phone plays a short click every time you tap the navigation buttons or on-screen keys, the 'Touch sounds' feature is active. Some people find this feedback helpful, others just want a quiet phone without extra clicks on every tap. The setting sits separately from your ringtone and notification sounds, so muting your phone will not remove it.
Pair a Bluetooth Device
Turning on Bluetooth on your Oppo phone does not automatically connect it to headphones, speakers, or another phone. Both devices still need to confirm the connection before any file transfer or audio streaming works. If your Oppo phone cannot find the other device or the pairing request never appears, the two devices are simply not linked yet.
Remove a Folder from the Home Screen
Deleting a folder on your Oppo phone can go two ways: either the folder disappears together with every app icon inside it, or only the folder itself is dissolved and the apps land back on the home screen. Mixing up these two options often leads to accidentally losing apps you actually wanted to keep.
Add Another Fingerprint
If your Oppo phone only recognizes one finger, unlocking fails whenever that hand is wet, bandaged or busy holding something. Password & biometrics stores just the first scan by default, so app locks and mobile payments depend on that single print. Adding a second or third fingerprint, even from another person in the household, removes that single point of failure.
App Drawer: Turn On or Off
New apps on your Oppo landing straight on the home screen instead of a separate app list usually means the App Drawer is switched off. Without it, every install adds another icon to your screen, and there is no dedicated overview to browse through installed apps. On ColorOS this behavior is controlled through the home screen layout mode, not a standalone app-drawer toggle.
Turn USB Tethering On or Off
If your laptop or tablet won't get online after you plug in your Oppo phone via USB cable, the internet connection usually is not shared yet. USB tethering has to be switched on manually before the connected device can use your mobile data.
Remove a Widget from the Home Screen
A widget sitting on your home screen refuses to move or just clutters the layout, and tapping it only opens the linked app instead of offering a way out. On some Oppo models the widget also feels stuck in place, as if it were locked to that spot.
Turn Lock Screen Notifications On or Off
If notifications keep showing full message previews on your Oppo lock screen, the 'Lock screen notifications' option is likely set to display title and body for that app. ColorOS handles this setting per app, so one app can stay silent while another still alerts you. Left on the default, anyone who glances at your phone can read message content before you unlock it.
Set Up a VPN Connection
If your company or university hands you server details instead of a ready-made VPN app, your Oppo phone needs a manual profile entered directly in the system settings. Without the right protocol, server address and login data, the connection fails silently or drops right after you save it. This is different from installing a VPN app from the Play Store, which handles the setup on its own.
Show or Hide Notification Icons in Status Bar
On Oppo phones, every app pushes its own icon into the status bar, which quickly turns the top of your screen into a cluttered icon row. If you only want to see how many unread notifications you have, or nothing at all, the icon display is controlled through a separate notification setting. This setting changes how icons appear, not whether you actually receive notifications.
Change App Icon Style
If every app icon on your Oppo still shows the same rounded-square outline, the built-in icon shape picker probably has not been touched yet. Coloros lets you switch all home screen icons at once between styles like standard, material, pebble, or a custom outline. The setting is easy to miss because it sits inside general appearance options rather than the home screen settings themselves.
Change Default Messaging App
If Messenger or another chat app keeps hijacking your text messages, Coloros still only lets one app act as the default SMS handler at a time. Several installed apps can request that role, which is why replies to notifications sometimes open the wrong client. Oppo controls this behavior through a single setting in the app management area, separate from the messaging apps themselves.
Turn Grid Lines On or Off in Camera
Framing a landscape shot without a horizon reference makes tilted photos easy to miss. On many Oppo phones the camera grid overlay is switched off by default, so there is no composition guide in the viewfinder until you turn it on. Photo and video mode also handle this setting separately, which causes confusion when the grid shows up in one mode but not the other.
Turn On or Off Flip to Mute Incoming Calls
If your Oppo phone keeps ringing loudly during meetings even after you flip it face-down on the table, the flip-to-mute gesture might be turned off. This gesture silences an incoming call the moment the screen faces down, but only when it is enabled in the gesture settings. Some users also find the opposite problem: calls go silent unexpectedly whenever the phone lies flat.
Move Apps and Files to an SD Card
When internal storage on your Oppo phone runs low, photos, videos, and even some apps stay stuck on the device even though an SD card is installed. Coloros includes a built-in transfer tool, but it only works with certain file types and not every app is eligible for the move. Knowing which data can actually shift to the memory card helps you free up space without deleting anything you need.
Custom Ringtone for a Contact
If your Oppo phone plays the same generic ringtone no matter who calls, you can't tell an important contact from a random number without looking at the screen. ColorOS lets you swap in a custom sound for individual contacts instead of relying on the default tone. This works with your own audio files, not just the built-in ringtone list, and it stays independent from Focus or Do Not Disturb rules.
Turn Off TalkBack (Accessibility)
If TalkBack is running on your Oppo phone, a single tap only selects an item and reads it aloud instead of opening it. Every action now needs a confirming second tap, which makes even switching TalkBack off feel out of reach. This select-then-confirm control catches most users off guard exactly when they try to disable the feature.
Turn Keyboard Sound On or Off
Typing without any click sound, or suddenly hearing it after a system update, can be confusing since Oppo phones don't have a dedicated keyboard sound toggle inside ColorOS itself. The setting actually lives inside the Gboard app that most Oppo devices use by default. On many devices this sound is turned off from the start, leaving you unsure where to look for it.
Turn On/Off Emergency SOS
If pressing the power button five times keeps launching Emergency SOS by accident, or the shortcut refuses to trigger when you actually need it, the Emergency call quick access toggle is probably set the wrong way. The feature works straight from the lock screen and dials your saved emergency contacts, so an unwanted trigger during everyday use can be just as annoying as a missing one in a real emergency.
