Install an App from the Google Play Store
If the Install button in the Play Store stays grey or the app never shows up in your search, a missing Google Account is usually the reason. Sideloaded APKs from unknown sources work differently and skip the official verification that the Play Store relies on. Once you know where the search and install controls sit on ColorOS, the process only takes a few taps.
Turn Keyboard Sound On or Off
Typing without any click sound, or suddenly hearing it after a system update, can be confusing since Oppo phones don't have a dedicated keyboard sound toggle inside ColorOS itself. The setting actually lives inside the Gboard app that most Oppo devices use by default. On many devices this sound is turned off from the start, leaving you unsure where to look for it.
Add App Shortcut to the Home Screen
On Oppo phones running the App Drawer layout, newly installed apps stay tucked away in the drawer instead of landing on the home screen. If you keep swiping up just to launch one app, you are missing a shortcut that needs to be placed there manually.

These cell broadcast warnings about extreme weather or safety threats are switched on by default under ColorOS, and many users only notice the setting once an unwanted alert interrupts them.
Set Alarm Ring Duration
If your Oppo phone's alarm cuts off after just 5 minutes and you keep sleeping through it, the ring duration is still on the default setting. You can stretch it up to 30 minutes or shorten it to as little as 1 minute, depending on how deep a sleeper you are.
Turn Data Saving On or Off
If background apps on your Oppo phone suddenly stop syncing or notifications arrive late, Data Saving mode is likely blocking their mobile data access. Even apps you are actively using can load slower or skip previews and thumbnails while the mode is active. This setting sits inside the mobile data menu and is easy to miss when troubleshooting connectivity issues.
Pair a Bluetooth Device
Turning on Bluetooth on your Oppo phone does not automatically connect it to headphones, speakers, or another phone. Block or Unblock a Contact

Add Another Fingerprint
If your Oppo phone only recognizes one finger, unlocking fails whenever that hand is wet, bandaged or busy holding something. Set Up a VPN Connection
If your company or university hands you server details instead of a ready-made VPN app, your Oppo phone needs a manual profile entered directly in the system settings. Without the right protocol, server address and login data, the connection fails silently or drops right after you save it. This is different from installing a VPN app from the Play Store, which handles the setup on its own.
Limit Connected Devices on Personal Hotspot
By default, an Oppo hotspot accepts up to ten devices at once, which slows down shared data or blocks a new phone or laptop from joining once that cap is reached. If your household needs fewer simultaneous connections for better speed, or more room for extra devices, the ten-device default is not fixed. You can raise or lower it directly in the hotspot settings.
Show or Hide Notification Icons in Status Bar
On Oppo phones, every app pushes its own icon into the status bar, which quickly turns the top of your screen into a cluttered icon row. If you only want to see how many unread notifications you have, or nothing at all, the icon display is controlled through a separate notification setting. This setting changes how icons appear, not whether you actually receive notifications.
Set Default App Storage to SD Card
Running out of internal storage on your Oppo phone while the SD card sits mostly empty? You cannot install apps directly onto the memory card, but many apps let you redirect new data to it once you set the card as the default storage target. Whether this actually frees up space depends on whether the app itself supports external storage.
Change App Icon Style
If every app icon on your Oppo still shows the same rounded-square outline, the built-in icon shape picker probably has not been touched yet. Coloros lets you switch all home screen icons at once between styles like standard, material, pebble, or a custom outline. The setting is easy to miss because it sits inside general appearance options rather than the home screen settings themselves.
Change Default Messaging App
If Messenger or another chat app keeps hijacking your text messages, Coloros still only lets one app act as the default SMS handler at a time. Show or Hide Password Characters While Typing
On Oppo phones, the last character you type into a password field briefly shows up on screen instead of staying hidden behind dots.
