Switch Between Navigation Buttons and Gestures
If the three navigation buttons at the bottom of your Oppo phone take up screen space or the swipe gestures keep triggering by accident, you can switch between both control modes at any time. ColorOS lets you pick virtual buttons or full-screen gestures depending on how you actually hold and use your phone.
Turn Smart Sidebar On or Off
If swiping in from the right edge of the screen does nothing, the Smart Sidebar on your Oppo phone might be switched off. The Smart Sidebar normally holds app shortcuts, quick tools like screenshot capture, and quick apps for fast access. When it stays hidden or pops up by accident during games or reading, the toggle for it usually needs adjusting in the system settings.
Turn Eye Comfort On or Off
If the screen feels harsh on your eyes after dark, Oppo's Eye comfort mode is probably switched off or set to the wrong schedule. This blue light filter warms up the display and lets you adjust how strong that tint should be. Many people never notice it because it sits inside Display settings instead of a dedicated night mode switch.
Turn Keyboard Vibration On or Off
If typing on your Oppo phone feels silent even though you want tactile feedback, or the opposite happens and every tap buzzes when you want quiet, the keyboard has its own vibration setting separate from your system sound menu. Oppo devices run Google's Gboard by default, and its haptic feedback toggle is often confused with the general vibration options elsewhere in the phone. Even with the toggle switched on, the vibration level itself can still be set to zero, which mutes the effect completely.
Power Button Ends Call Setting
Reaching for the screen to hang up takes an extra step when you are already holding the phone to end a call quickly. On some Oppo phones the power button does nothing during an active call, even though Android supports using it to hang up instantly. This setting sits inside the calling accounts menu and is off by default on many devices, so calls only end via the on-screen button unless you switch it on yourself.
Change Alarm Sound
If your alarm still plays the same default tone every morning on your Oppo phone, you probably have not touched the Ringtone option inside the Clock app yet. Many users also expect the smart alarm tone to adjust automatically, but that only works once it is switched on separately. Without editing the sound assigned to each alarm, ColorOS keeps reusing the same melody for every wake-up time.
Turn Auto-correction On or Off
If words get swapped or rewritten while you type, without any underline or tap-to-confirm option, auto-correction is silently editing your text. This sits inside the keyboard settings, not in any messaging app itself. Typing names, slang, or technical terms becomes annoying when the keyboard keeps replacing them on its own.
Unlock App Lock with Fingerprint
If App lock on your Oppo phone still asks for a PIN or password even though you want to use your fingerprint, the sensor option is probably still switched off. Fingerprint unlock for App lock only works once you turn it on separately, and only after a privacy password has been set up. Without that password, the fingerprint toggle stays greyed out.
Change Personal Hotspot AP Band (2.4 GHz / 5 GHz)
If your Oppo hotspot feels slow or drops connections when several devices join, it is probably still running on the 2.4 GHz frequency. Many Oppo phones can broadcast on 5 GHz instead, which gives connected laptops and tablets more bandwidth over shorter range. The switch has to be made manually, since the hotspot defaults to 2.4 GHz every time.
Turn Flashlight On or Off
Searching your app drawer for a flashlight icon on your Oppo phone gets you nowhere. Coloros does not ship a standalone flashlight app, so the toggle sits hidden inside the quick settings panel instead. Anyone coming from a different Android skin usually looks in the wrong place first.
Change SIM Card Name
On Oppo phones with dual SIM, both cards show up as SIM1 and SIM2 in call logs, texts, and network settings. That makes it tricky to tell a work line apart from a personal number at a glance. You can swap in a custom label for each SIM instead, up to ten characters long.
Auto Turn-Off for Personal Hotspot
If your Oppo phone keeps its Wi-Fi hotspot running long after every device has disconnected, it drains the battery for no reason. ColorOS includes a setting that shuts the hotspot down automatically once nothing has used it for a while. Without that toggle enabled, the hotspot stays active until you switch it off by hand.
Set a Default Calling SIM for a Contact
On a Dual SIM Oppo phone, outgoing calls tend to go out on whichever SIM was used last, which gets annoying when you keep switching SIM manually before dialing a specific person. If a contact has both a private and a business number saved, the wrong SIM can also mean the wrong caller ID or tariff for that call.
Allow or Restrict Background App Activity
If messaging apps on your Oppo phone only show new messages after you open them, or a fitness tracker stops logging steps overnight, ColorOS battery management is likely blocking that app in the background. The 'Allow background activity' toggle decides whether an app can keep running once you switch away from it, and a disabled toggle can silently break notifications, syncing, and tracking.
Turn Google Voice Typing On or Off
If a microphone icon keeps showing up on your Oppo keyboard even though you never asked for voice input, Google voice typing is active by default under ColorOS. It sits inside the keyboard settings alongside your regular input method, so many users only notice it once they tap it by accident. You can switch it off there, or turn it back on if speech input disappeared after an update.
Enable Developer Options
If a sync feature, app debugging tool, or advanced network setting is missing from your Oppo phone, it is often hidden behind a menu that is not visible by default. This menu, meant for app testing, stays off unless you specifically trigger it in the phone's build information. Without it enabled, options like USB debugging or forced GPU rendering simply do not appear in Settings.
Optimize Battery Usage for Background Apps
If WhatsApp or Messages notifications arrive late or not at all on your Oppo phone, background battery optimization is usually the cause. ColorOS restricts or shuts down inactive apps to save power, which interrupts push notifications and syncing. You can control this behavior per app instead of letting the system decide on its own.
Turn On/Off USB-OTG
If a keyboard, mouse or USB stick doesn't get recognized when you plug it into your Oppo phone, USB-OTG is probably switched off. Coloros also disables the feature automatically after about ten minutes without a connected accessory, so it can look off again even though you enabled it before.
Set a Screen Lock with Pattern, PIN or Password
If your Oppo phone still opens with a simple swipe, anyone who picks it up can read your messages, photos and banking apps without entering a code. ColorOS keeps the pattern, PIN and password options tucked inside a security menu that many people never open, so the phone stays unprotected by default. Without this lock active, features like remote find-and-wipe also lose part of their effectiveness.
Allow App Installs from Unknown Sources
When you download an app outside the Google Play Store, Oppo blocks the installation by default because the source is not verified. This affects APK files from a browser, a file manager, or a third-party store. Without giving that specific app permission first, the installation stops before it starts.
Auto Switch Between Wi-Fi and Mobile Data
If your Oppo phone keeps stalling on a weak Wi-Fi signal instead of jumping to mobile data, the Wi-Fi Assistant feature is either switched off or mobile data itself is disabled in the background. Videos buffer, messages send late, and apps time out even though the Wi-Fi icon still shows a connection. This setting decides whether your phone hands over to mobile data automatically once Wi-Fi quality drops.
Force Full-Screen Mode for Non-Optimized Apps
If an app still shows the status bar and navigation bar on Oppo phones, the system has not marked it as full-screen optimized. This happens with older or less common apps that ColorOS does not automatically stretch to the edges. You can force full-screen display manually, but only if the app itself supports it.
Share Single or Multiple Contacts
Sending someone a contact from your Oppo phone often means retyping a phone number by hand because the built-in Contacts app hides the sharing option behind a long-press gesture. Both single entries and whole groups of contacts can be exported as a vCard or text file, but many users never find the menu that triggers it.
Add Widgets to the Home Screen
If your Oppo home screen only shows app icons and folders, you are missing widgets that display live info like weather, calendar events, or battery status.
