Delete a Contact Group
If a contact group on your Samsung phone has outlived its purpose, it stays listed in your Contacts app until you remove it manually. You can delete just the group label or wipe the group together with every stored member. One group, Emergency contacts, cannot be removed this way.
Create a Folder on the Home Screen
Your Home screen fills up fast when every app gets its own icon, and scrolling through several pages just to find one app gets tiresome. Samsung lets you group icons into folders, but the option only shows up once you enter the icon selection mode instead of a regular menu. Missing that step is usually why people give up before finding Create folder.
Turn Adaptive Battery On or Off
If notifications from an app you rarely open arrive late or not at all, Adaptive battery is probably holding that app in a deeper sleep state in the background. The feature only limits background activity for apps you barely use and leaves apps you open daily untouched. It has no effect on screen brightness or overall device performance, so switching it off will not speed up your phone.
Connect to Wi-Fi via QR Code
Typing out a long WLAN password on a guest's phone wastes time and usually ends in a typo or two. Samsung's Wi-Fi QR code scanner reads the network credentials straight from another device's shared code, so you skip manual entry completely. The catch: the other device has to generate and display that QR code first before your phone can scan it.
Turn On/Off Auto HDR
Bright skies turn white and shadows go black in the same shot on your Samsung phone. That washed-out look usually means Auto HDR is switched off, so the camera cannot merge multiple exposures into one balanced photo. High-contrast scenes like backlit portraits or landscapes with strong sun suffer most from this.
Add a Wi-Fi Network Manually
If your router does not appear in the Wi-Fi list, it usually means the network is hidden and not broadcasting its name. In that case you have to add it by hand using the exact SSID and, if the network is secured, the correct password. A typo in either field is the most common reason the connection still fails afterward.
Turn On/Off Bedtime Mode
If your Samsung phone suddenly switches to grayscale and notifications stop coming through at night, Bedtime mode is likely active. Held-back alerts only appear once the scheduled period ends, which can make it look like your phone stopped receiving messages entirely. This differs from Do Not Disturb, since Bedtime mode also dims the display and can run on a fixed schedule.
Set Date Manually
If the date field on your Samsung phone is greyed out, the device is still pulling the date from the mobile network. You need to turn off that automatic sync before you can pick a specific day, month or year yourself. This usually happens after a SIM swap, while traveling, or when testing an app that behaves differently on certain dates.
Add Trusted Devices for Smart Lock
If your Samsung phone still asks for a PIN every time you get in the car or plug in your headphones, Smart Lock is not recognizing your Bluetooth accessory as trusted yet. Without a registered device, the phone falls back to full lock screen security even when it is clearly connected to something you use daily. Adding the right accessory as a trusted device lets the phone skip the lock screen automatically while that connection is active.
Back Up Data to Samsung Cloud
A phone that gets lost, stolen or bricked takes any local backup with it. If contacts, photos or app data only exist on the device itself, a factory reset or hardware failure wipes them for good. Backing them up to your Samsung account keeps a copy safe outside the phone.
Show or Hide Notifications on Always On Display
If your Always On Display keeps showing notification icons you would rather keep off the lock screen, that is the default Notifications behavior on Samsung phones. These icons only signal that a message arrived and never reveal sender or content, even when the setting stays on. Turning it off removes the icons from the always-on screen completely.
Ignore Repeated Touches: Turn On or Off
If a single tap on your Samsung device sometimes registers as two or three taps, or a light touch triggers extra input, the screen may be reacting to accidental double contact. The Ignore repeated touches feature controls how long the display waits before accepting another tap after the first one. Adjusting it helps if you have shaky hands, a cracked screen, or a case that causes phantom touches.
Add an Account to Calendar
If your appointments, birthdays or tasks from Google or Exchange are missing in the Calendar app, the account simply has not been linked yet. Samsung Calendar only shows data that is stored on your phone or connected through a synced account, so an unlinked account leaves whole calendars empty.
Change Default Apps
If tapping a link always opens the wrong browser, or a newly installed messaging app never launches automatically, a leftover default app assignment is still active. Samsung keeps separate default apps for actions like opening links, sending texts or making calls, and a fresh install does not take over automatically. Until you reassign it, the old app keeps handling those actions.
Schedule Dark Mode
If Dark Mode stays on well past sunrise or never switches off before you go to bed, the automatic schedule on your Samsung phone probably is not set up yet. Samsung lets you tie Dark Mode to sunset and sunrise or to a fixed time you choose, but this option sits switched off by default, so most people end up toggling the display mode by hand every day.
Set App Timers
If one app on your phone keeps eating more of your day than planned, Samsung's App Timer can shut it down automatically once the daily budget runs out. The app closes itself and stays locked until midnight, then resets. Apps inside Secure Folder or dual-app clones are not affected by this limit at all.
Group Albums into Folders
When your Gallery fills up with dozens of separate albums, finding a specific event takes longer every time you open the app. Samsung lets you nest related albums inside one main album, so yearly or category folders stay bundled instead of cluttering the overview. This grouping option is easy to miss because it works through drag-and-drop instead of a settings menu.
Set Date and Time Automatically
If your Samsung phone shows the wrong time after a trip or a SIM swap, the automatic clock sync has likely been switched off. Apps that rely on accurate timestamps, like calendars, banking apps, or two-factor codes, can then throw errors or reject logins. This usually traces back to a single toggle in the system settings that pulls time data from your mobile network.
Format SD Card
If your Samsung phone shows a damaged SD card message or won't read a memory card at all, the card usually needs to be formatted before it works with your device storage. This happens with brand-new cards straight out of the package and with cards that were previously used in a camera or another phone. Block or Unblock a Contact
If one saved contact keeps calling or texting after you have asked them to stop, blocking is the only way to silence both channels at once. Restart Device
If your phone feels sluggish, apps stay open in the background, or a connection stops responding, a restart usually fixes it in seconds. Restarting closes every background app and clears part of the system cache without touching your files. You can trigger it from the quick panel in the status bar or with a simple button combination.
Turn Emoji Suggestions On or Off
If your Samsung keyboard keeps swapping words for emoji while you type, the built-in suggestion feature is working overtime. Samsung Keyboard scans what you write and offers a matching emoji you can drop in with a tap, right next to the usual word predictions. If that behavior gets in your way, you can turn it off without losing normal word suggestions.
