Auto-Lock Secure Folder Settings
By default, Secure Folder on Samsung phones only locks once the screen turns off, which leaves your private apps and files exposed for longer than expected if someone grabs the phone while it's still active. If you want it to lock immediately, right after a restart, or after a fixed amount of time instead, that behavior sits in a setting most people never touch.
Show Passwords While Typing
On Samsung phones, each password character flashes briefly on screen before turning into an asterisk. That preview helps you catch typos, but it also means anyone glancing at your display can read the character. Some users prefer to switch that flash off entirely so nothing ever appears on screen.
Add Emergency Medical Info to Contacts
If first responders can't tell rescue workers about allergies, medications or blood type, critical seconds get lost during an emergency. Samsung phones let you store this medical information directly in your Contacts profile, but many users never find where to enter it. The data lives outside your regular contact card and stays visible even when the phone is locked.
Turn Off Screen Lock
Every time you wake your Samsung phone, you have to swipe past a PIN, pattern or password prompt before you reach the home screen. If you do not need that layer of protection, the lock screen still forces you through it on every wake. Removing the screen lock lets the device jump straight to the home screen instead.
Turn Find My Mobile On or Off
If your Samsung phone gets lost or stolen and you cannot see its location or lock it remotely, Find My Mobile is likely switched off or was never activated. This built-in locator works alongside Google Find My Device but also allows remote control of the phone, including unlocking it in specific cases. Knowing where the toggle lives makes the difference when you need to act fast.
Turn Google Play Protect On or Off
If Google Play Protect keeps flagging or automatically disabling an app you trust, the built-in scanner has classified it as suspicious. This often happens with sideloaded APKs or niche tools that Google has not verified, even when the app runs fine. Repeated warning notifications or a greyed-out app icon are the clearest sign that Play Protect is intervening in the background.
Toggle Screen Brighten for Face Recognition
Unlocking your Samsung phone with your face in a dark room briefly floods the display with light, and that flash can be distracting or draw attention at night. This behavior comes from the Brighten screen option tied to Face recognition, and it works independently from your normal screen brightness settings.
Encrypt or Decrypt SD Card
If your Samsung phone gets lost or stolen, anyone can pull the SD card and read the photos or app data stored on it. Samsung lets you tie the card to your device with encryption so it becomes unreadable in any other phone or card reader. This only works reliably if you set a screen lock first, since the encryption is unlocked using your Pattern, PIN, or Password.
Rename a Fingerprint
When you add several fingerprints on your Samsung phone, they all get generic labels like Fingerprint 1 or Fingerprint 2. If more than one person unlocks the same device, it gets confusing to tell whose print is stored where.
Manage App Permissions via Permission Manager
When you install a new app on your Samsung phone, it starts with no access to your camera, microphone, storage or location. Only once you open the app or trigger a specific feature for the first time does a permission prompt appear on screen. If you tapped Deny by accident or want to review which apps can read your contacts, gallery or location, you need Permission manager to check and change each permission individually.
Smart Anti-Tracking: Turn On or Off
Closing Secret mode does not stop every site from tracking you across sessions. Cookies and browsing traces from the regular Internet app can still build a profile of you, even after you clear history manually. Smart anti-tracking works independently of Secret mode and can clean this up automatically.
Add Trusted Devices for Smart Lock
If your Samsung phone still asks for a PIN every time you get in the car or plug in your headphones, Smart Lock is not recognizing your Bluetooth accessory as trusted yet. Without a registered device, the phone falls back to full lock screen security even when it is clearly connected to something you use daily. Adding the right accessory as a trusted device lets the phone skip the lock screen automatically while that connection is active.
Change System Settings App Permission
If an app suddenly stops adjusting screen brightness, auto-rotate, or sound profiles on its own, it may be missing the Change system settings permission on your Samsung phone. Blocking this permission stops those automatic adjustments but never touches lock screen or biometric security, since Samsung keeps those separate. You decide per app whether it keeps this special access.
Delete a Saved Fingerprint
Old fingerprints stored on your Samsung phone stay active even after you stop using them, and every extra entry gives a spoofed or borrowed print another chance to unlock the device. If a family member's finger, a child's print, or an unreliable scan is still registered under Fingerprints, it can grant access you no longer want. Removing entries you do not need closes that gap without touching your other saved biometrics.
Lock Secure Folder Manually
If Secure Folder stays open after you close it, the automatic lock timer or restart-only setting is probably still active. That leaves private apps and files reachable until the timer runs out or the phone reboots. A manual lock option inside the folder closes it right away, without waiting for either condition.
Add Trusted Places for Smart Lock
Typing your PIN every time you walk through the front door or reach your desk at work gets tiring fast. Smart Lock's Trusted places feature can skip the lock screen at locations you use often, but the unlock zone is based on estimated location rather than an exact address. That's why the phone sometimes stays unlocked a bit outside your home or starts locking again before you're actually inside.
Change or Remove Lock Screen App Shortcuts
On most Samsung phones, the lock screen always shows the phone app in the bottom-left corner and the camera in the bottom-right corner, whether you use them from there or not. If you keep tapping the wrong icon by accident, or you just want a cleaner lock screen, those two shortcuts can be swapped, combined, or turned off entirely.
