Customize Secure Folder Name and Icon
If your Secure Folder still carries its default label and icon, anyone glancing at your app list can spot exactly what it hides. Samsung lets you rename it and swap the icon for something less obvious, but the icon options are limited to presets and the initial letter of your chosen name. You cannot upload a custom image as the icon.
Turn Off Personalized Ads on Samsung
If ads in your apps feel oddly specific to sites you visited or things you searched, Google's Advertising ID is behind it. This ID lets ad networks build a profile from your app and browsing activity, then match ads to your interests across different apps and services.
Mark a Contact as Favorite
If a contact you call or text often keeps sliding down your list, Favorites pins them to the top - but only once the flag is actually switched on for that person. On Samsung phones this same flag also controls the pinned row in the Phone app, so the two lists never match up on their own.
Set Up a Proxy Server for Wi-Fi
If your workplace or school network requires all traffic to pass through a specific server, a normal Wi-Fi connection on your Samsung phone will not get you online. Without the correct proxy host and port entered in the Wi-Fi settings, apps and browsers simply time out or show a connection error. This setup only affects the Wi-Fi network you configure it on, not mobile data.
Add a Photo to a Contact
If a contact still shows only the first letter of the name or one of the animated default images that come with your Samsung device, calls and messages look generic instead of personal. This happens because no custom photo has been assigned to that contact yet. Swapping in your own picture makes the caller instantly recognizable on the call screen and in Messages.
Turn On/Off Palm Swipe to Capture
If swiping the edge of your hand across the screen does not trigger a screenshot, or if it fires by accident while you grip the phone, the Palm swipe to capture gesture is set the wrong way. This motion feature sits in the gesture settings and can be missed easily since it is off by default on some devices.
Turn Edge Panels On or Off
On many Samsung phones a thin bar sits along the right or left screen edge and slides open into a panel whenever you drag it inward. This comes from the Edge panels feature, which ships active by default and can get in the way during games or one-handed use. If you never open the panels, the handle itself still stays visible and reacts to touches near the border.
Show or Hide the Lockdown Button in the Power Menu
Face Detection, Smart Lock and even the fingerprint sensor are convenient, but none of them is the strongest lock on your phone. Samsung adds a Lockdown entry to the power menu that forces a PIN, pattern or password before anyone gets in, overriding those biometric shortcuts. If that button is missing, or you want it gone for good, the toggle sits in a spot most people never check.
Allow Calls in Do Not Disturb
When Do Not Disturb is active on your Samsung phone, every incoming call gets silenced by default, even from people saved in your contacts. This happens because the Calls, messages and conversations settings inside Do Not Disturb treat phone calls like any other notification unless you tell it otherwise. You can choose whether all calls, only contacts, only favorites, or none get through.
Sync Calendar Manually
If you close the Calendar app and it keeps running in the background, new appointments and logged calls on your Samsung phone often don't show up until you restart the app. Data saving mode, battery saving mode, and background restrictions in Samsung One UI can all block the automatic sync. Forcing a manual sync brings the calendar up to date without waiting for the next automatic refresh.
Allow or Mute Alarm and Notification Sounds During Calls
If alarms and notification sounds keep interrupting your calls, or you cannot hear them at all until you hang up, the Notify during calls option is behind it. This setting decides whether the phone plays alert sounds while a call is active or holds them back until you finish talking. Getting the behavior you actually want means knowing where this toggle lives and what it affects.
Smart Anti-Tracking: Turn On or Off
Closing Secret mode does not stop every site from tracking you across sessions. Cookies and browsing traces from the regular Internet app can still build a profile of you, even after you clear history manually. Smart anti-tracking works independently of Secret mode and can clean this up automatically.
Sort Contacts by First or Last Name
If your contact list on a Samsung phone lines up alphabetically by first name when you expected last-name order, the sort setting inside the Contacts app is responsible, not the Phone app itself. This mismatch shows up the same way in Calls and Messages, since both pull from the same contact list. Switching the sort order only takes a moment once you know where the setting lives.
Show or Hide Secure Folder Notification Content
When an app inside Secure Folder sends a notification, Samsung hides the actual content by default, both on the lock screen and in the notification panel. You only see that something arrived, not what it says, which gets confusing when you rely on message previews. This behavior comes from a separate privacy setting inside Secure Folder, independent of your normal notification content settings.
Turn Subtitles On or Off
If captions stay off during video playback or look different from app to app, you are probably dealing with two separate subtitle systems on your Samsung phone. Samsung subtitles and Google subtitles (CC) both add captions but sit in different menus and offer different styling options. Knowing which one is active decides whether size, color and background of the text can even be changed.
Hide Apps from the Home Screen
If an app icon keeps cluttering your Samsung home screen even though you barely use it, uninstalling feels too drastic, especially for preinstalled apps you might need later. One UI has a built-in Hide apps option that removes the icon from the home and apps screens without deleting anything. The app stays installed, keeps running in the background, and is still listed in your full app settings.
Reset Camera Settings
If your Samsung camera keeps producing odd results after tweaking resolution, filters, grid lines or shooting modes, restoring the default configuration usually clears the mess fastest. Custom settings like exposure values, watermark options or scene assist can silently stack up and cause blurry, oversaturated or oddly cropped shots. Resetting the camera app wipes every custom option but leaves photos and videos you already captured untouched.
Change Font Style
If every menu, notification, and app on your Galaxy phone still shows the same default typeface, the system font hasn't been changed yet. Samsung ships built-in alternatives like 'SamsungOne' and 'Gothic Bold', and the Galaxy Store offers more fonts to download or buy. Until you adjust this setting in Display, the interface keeps the factory look everywhere.
Move Photos and Videos to an Album
Photos and videos from your camera or downloads often end up scattered across different albums, making it hard to find anything later. Samsung Gallery lets you move or copy several files into one album at once, but the prompt asking whether to copy or move can be confusing the first time you see it.
Export Contacts as vCard
Switching to a new phone or backing up your contact list only works if you can get every saved entry out of the Contacts app in one file. Without exporting first, you are left copying numbers one by one. Samsung phones can bundle everything into a single vCard file that other devices, apps and services can read.
Show or Hide Frequently Contacted
If your Contacts app keeps showing a Frequently contacted section above your saved contacts, Samsung is tracking who you called or messaged most in the last 30 days. That list updates on its own and can expose contacts you would rather not have visible at a glance. The setting behind it sits in the Contacts app itself, not in your general phone settings.
Enable Suspicious Network Detection for Wi-Fi
Connecting to a public Wi-Fi hotspot at a cafe or airport can quietly redirect your traffic through a rogue captive portal without any warning on screen. Samsung devices include a background check that flags this kind of suspicious network behavior, but the toggle for it is easy to miss and sometimes gets switched off during a reset. If the feature is disabled, your phone stays silent even when a network tries to intercept requests.
Switch Navigation Bar Between Buttons and Gestures
If your Samsung phone shows three buttons at the bottom instead of a slim gesture bar - or the other way round - you can switch the layout yourself. Some people find the thin gesture bar too easy to trigger by accident, while others miss the dedicated Back button once gestures are active. The right setup depends on how confidently you swipe versus tap.
Turn On/Off Message Delivery Reports
If you send a text message and never see a confirmation that it arrived, delivery reports are probably switched off on your Samsung phone. This status, called Show when delivered, marks the exact moment the recipient's device receives your message. Carriers process this confirmation without extra charge in almost all cases.
