Auto-Download MMS Toggle
If picture or video messages start downloading the moment they arrive, even over mobile data you would rather save, Samsung's Auto retrieve setting for multimedia messages is doing exactly what it's built for. Turning it off means MMS content stays queued until you decide to load it yourself.
Print a Photo from the Gallery
If the Print option in your Gallery stays greyed out or no printer shows up, the built-in printing service on your Samsung phone or tablet is not finding a compatible printer. This happens most often when the printer is on a different network or the print plugin has not been set up yet. The result is that photos, PDFs or other files never reach the printer, even though the Print button is right there in the share menu.
Navigation Bar Button Order
If the Back and Recent apps buttons feel swapped on your Samsung phone, it is not a bug, the navigation bar just uses a layout you are not used to. Samsung only lets you mirror the whole button row, not rearrange each icon freely. Knowing this limit saves you from searching for a setting that does not exist.
Show Passwords While Typing
On Samsung phones, each password character flashes briefly on screen before turning into an asterisk. That preview helps you catch typos, but it also means anyone glancing at your display can read the character. Some users prefer to switch that flash off entirely so nothing ever appears on screen.
Enable or Disable Edge Lighting
When calls or messages stop lighting up the curved edge of your Samsung display, Edge lighting is usually switched off. The feature normally triggers a colored glow along the screen border, on an active or inactive display, and lets you adjust style, color, duration, and transparency per app. Once it is disabled, none of those visual alerts show up anymore.
Reset Accessibility Settings
If Voice Assistant keeps reading out screen content, mono audio mixes both channels together, or color and contrast tweaks stay active without a clear reason, several accessibility options are probably still switched on from an earlier setup. Turning each toggle off manually is slow and easy to get wrong. The keyboard is not affected by this, so typing issues need a different fix.
Using Speed Dial Numbers for Calls
Speed dial numbers only work if you press and hold the correct digit on the dial pad instead of tapping it briefly. For two-digit speed dial slots like 14, you type the first digit normally and only hold down the second one. On phones with two SIM cards, missing the SIM selection step can also cause the call to fail.
Set Custom App Icons
If your home screen still shows the default Samsung icon set even after installing an icon pack from the Galaxy Store, the pack is downloaded but not switched on yet. One UI keeps custom icon sets separate from your current app grid until you apply them manually inside the Themes app. No root access or third-party launcher is required to activate them.
Switch Camera Mode
Stuck on Photo mode and cannot find Panorama, Night, or Pro on your Samsung camera? Many of these modes sit behind a More menu instead of showing in the main swipe bar, which makes them easy to overlook. This is especially confusing on devices that also offer extra modes like Food or Hyperlapse next to the standard Photo and Video options.
Turn On/Off Data Warning
If your Samsung phone flags a data warning even though you barely touched mobile data, or the alert never shows up before your plan runs out, the built-in threshold is likely misconfigured. This warning works independently from any actual data cap, so leaving it off does not stop overage charges from your carrier. A wrong or missing threshold value is the usual reason the alert fires too early or too late.
Add Apps to Secure Folder
Apps you drop directly into Secure Folder often seem to vanish - they never turn up in the regular app list or in your device settings. That is expected: Secure Folder keeps its content in a separate, Knox-protected space, so an app can exist twice on the same phone without either copy sharing data.
Turn Alternative Characters On or Off
If the Samsung Keyboard suddenly swaps letters for symbols like the question mark, plus sign, or euro symbol while you type, the Alternative characters function is active. This can slow you down when you need letters and numbers mixed together, for example in passwords or addresses. A setting inside the keyboard layout controls whether this swap happens automatically.
Turn On/Off Assistant Menu
If reaching the physical Home, Back or volume buttons with one hand feels awkward, the Assistant menu replaces them with a floating panel of on-screen shortcuts. The panel can be dragged to any spot on the display and holds up to 12 buttons, but on many phones it stays switched off or shows shortcuts you never use.
Set Default Dialer App
If you install a third-party calling app but Samsung's own Phone app still opens for calls and messages, the default dialer assignment hasn't changed yet. This also affects which app handles your call log and dial pad, similar to how default apps work for Home, Browser or Messages. A screen lock can sometimes stop an alternative dialer from launching calls correctly.
Set Exceptions for Do Not Disturb Sounds and Alarms
When Do Not Disturb mutes your Samsung phone, calls, messages and reminders get silenced along with everything else, even if one of them is urgent. Alarms and media playback stay audible by default, but other sounds stay blocked until you change the settings yourself. This causes missed calls or reminders for anyone who keeps focus mode on for long stretches.
Merge Duplicate Contacts
If the same person shows up twice or three times in your contact list, an import from SIM, cloud, or a second account has likely created copies instead of updating the original entry. Calls, messages, and search results then jump between the duplicate versions, so you never know which one holds the current number. Samsung's Contacts app can combine these entries automatically once you point it at the matching fields.
Schedule Auto Restart Times
If your Samsung phone slows down after weeks of uptime, a scheduled restart clears background clutter without you lifting a finger. Many users never notice the Auto restart at set times option because it sits deep inside the device care settings and stays off by default. Without it enabled, you are stuck rebooting manually every time performance drops.
Change Always On Display Orientation
On Samsung phones, the Always On Display defaults to portrait orientation even when the phone sits flat in a stand, car mount, or dock turned sideways. That leaves the clock and icons rotated on their side instead of readable across the screen. The fix sits in a setting most people never open because it is separate from the normal screen rotation toggle.
Rename Contact Group
If a contact group on your Samsung phone still shows the wrong name, the fix only applies to groups you created yourself. Default groups like Family, Colleagues or Friends cannot be renamed, which often confuses users trying to clean up their address book.
Filter Call History by Type
When your Samsung call log mixes missed, rejected, and outgoing calls together, finding one specific entry gets tedious fast. A built-in filter narrows the list down to just what you need, for example missed calls only or calls tied to one SIM. This works on any dual-SIM Samsung phone.
Turn VoLTE Calls On or Off
If calls sound muffled, take longer to connect, or switch to a spotty 3G signal mid-call, VoLTE might be turned off on your Samsung phone. Voice over LTE routes calls through your carrier's data network instead of the older 2G or 3G circuit, which affects voice clarity, connection speed and even battery drain. On dual SIM models each SIM line has its own separate VoLTE switch, so one number can sound noticeably better than the other.
Request Desktop Site in Samsung Internet
Some websites hide download buttons, settings pages or entire tools when Samsung Internet loads the mobile version instead of the full site. If a page looks stripped down or a feature just will not work, the browser is likely serving you the mobile layout by default. Forcing the desktop version brings back the complete site as it appears on a computer.
Show or Hide Calendar Week Numbers
If your Samsung Calendar does not show which calendar week you are currently viewing, the week number display is probably switched off. Without it, planning around ISO week numbers for invoices, shifts, or project deadlines means counting weeks by hand. The option sits inside the calendar app itself, not in the general phone settings.
Turn Charging Sound On or Off
Every time you plug in or unplug the cable, your Samsung phone plays a short charging chime. That sound gets annoying fast if you charge overnight, top up during meetings, or use a wireless charger that triggers it repeatedly.
