Show or Hide Charging Info on Always On Display
When you plug in a Samsung phone, the Always On Display can overlay the charge percentage and estimated time to full right on the lock screen. Some people rely on this glance-and-go info, others find it distracting or want it gone for a cleaner look. Either way, the option sits in a display setting most people never touch.
Turn Show Palm On or Off for Selfies
If your Samsung camera keeps snapping photos every time you raise an open hand, the 'Show palm' gesture is reacting to more than just selfies. This automatic gesture starts a three-second timer whenever it detects a raised palm, which can trigger unwanted shots in group photos or video calls. Turning it on or off only takes a few taps inside the camera settings.
Turn Game Launcher On or Off
If your installed games sit scattered across the home screen and app drawer instead of being grouped in one place, Game Launcher is probably switched off. Turning it on also starts tracking your play time and unlocks Game Booster tools for blocking notifications while you play. Some people switch it back off when the extra overlay or usage tracking gets in the way during normal app use.
Set Default SIM Card for Calls
If your Samsung phone keeps dialing out from SIM 1 even though you meant to call from SIM 2, the default call SIM is likely locked to the wrong card. You can also set the phone to ask every time before placing a call, which helps when you keep one SIM for work and one for personal contacts. This same setting can be changed directly from the status bar shortcut, not just deep inside the settings menu.
Delete a Calendar Event
Cancelled appointments and outdated entries stay visible in the Samsung Calendar until you remove them manually. Old events pile up in the daily view and make it harder to spot what is actually still coming up. Deleting a single entry does not affect any other appointments stored in the calendar.
Turn Bixby Launch on the Side Key On or Off
Long-pressing the power button used to switch off your Samsung phone, but on newer devices the same press launches Bixby instead. Samsung renamed the power button to a Side key and moved its behavior into a separate menu. If you keep triggering Bixby by accident while trying to turn the phone off, the Side key settings are where the conflict actually sits.
Change Home Screen Wallpaper
If your home screen still shows the old background after picking a new photo, Samsung One UI likely applied the change to the lock screen instead. The Wallpaper menu treats the start screen and lock screen as separate targets, so choosing the wrong one is the most common reason nothing visibly changes. This applies to both the built-in wallpaper packs and photos from your own gallery.
Change Alarm Volume
If your alarm sounds too quiet or too loud, the fix is not in your general sound settings. On Samsung phones, alarm volume is controlled separately for each alarm inside the Clock app, not through the main volume slider. Without knowing this, many people assume the alarm volume is stuck at one level.
Rearrange Quick Settings
Only five Quick settings toggles show up when you swipe down once, and the ones you actually need are not always among them. Change Wallpaper on Lock Screen

Missing that separate step is the usual reason the lock screen never updates.
Add Emergency Contacts
If your phone is locked during an emergency, nobody can reach the people you trust unless they are saved as emergency contacts. Samsung ties this list to your Contacts profile, not to your regular address book, so numbers you already have saved will not show up on their own. Without this setup, SOS messages and lock-screen emergency calls have nobody to go to.
Turn Off Developer Options
Once Developer options are enabled on a Samsung phone, they stay in Settings even if you never touch them again. The extra menu entry does not affect performance or battery life, but some users prefer a clean settings list without it.
Turn Call Barring On or Off
If your Samsung phone keeps rejecting calls while roaming or blocks all outgoing calls without an obvious reason, Call barring is likely active in the background. This network-level restriction can lock out specific call types entirely, and changing it requires a network password from your carrier rather than your screen lock. Voice calls and video calls are controlled separately, which often causes confusion when only one type is affected.
Add a Printer by IP Address
If a printer never shows up in Samsung's Default Print Service, that model is likely not supported by the built-in driver list. Without a manual entry, print jobs simply fail or the printer never appears as an option. This mostly affects office, network, and older printers that the standard service does not recognize automatically.
Manage Sleeping Apps
If a messaging app suddenly stops pushing notifications or a tracking app won't sync overnight, One UI may have put it to sleep. Background usage limits on Samsung phones can pause individual apps completely, so they neither update nor notify until you open them again. Knowing whether an app sits in Sleeping, Deep sleeping, or Never sleeping explains a lot of missed alerts.
Turn Video Stabilization On or Off
If your videos look shaky despite recording handheld, or clips from the main camera suddenly seem oddly smoothed and slightly cropped, Video stabilization is the setting behind it. Samsung enables this correction by default, but only on the main camera, so footage from other lenses will not look the same. In fast pans or low light it can also introduce a subtle wobble or crop that some people prefer to turn off.
Change Data Warning Limit
If your mobile plan comes with a fixed data allowance, going past it without noticing usually means extra charges or a throttled connection. Samsung's data warning is meant to flag that moment, but the default threshold rarely matches your actual plan. Unlike the data limit, this feature only sends a notification and leaves your connection running.
Customize Lock Screen Notification Style
By default, Samsung phones show a small app icon on the lock screen for every new notification, without any details. If you want to see who messaged you or read a preview before unlocking, that icon-only view can feel too limited. Print a Photo from the Gallery
If the Print option in your Gallery stays greyed out or no printer shows up, the built-in printing service on your Samsung phone or tablet is not finding a compatible printer. This happens most often when the printer is on a different network or the print plugin has not been set up yet. The result is that photos, PDFs or other files never reach the printer, even though the Print button is right there in the share menu.
Default Reminder Time for Calendar Events
Every new event in Samsung Calendar starts with a reminder set to 10 minutes before, and all-day events default to 5 p.m. the day before. If you keep adjusting these values by hand for each new entry, the app is falling back on its built-in alert defaults instead of your preferred timing. Changing the default once removes the need to reset the reminder every time you add an event.
