Create a Contact Group
Sending the same text to five people one at a time gets old fast, and forwarding photos to the same circle of friends over and over wastes time. Samsung's Contacts app lets you bundle recipients into a group, so calls, texts, and emails go out to everyone at once. You can also give the group its own ringtone to spot incoming calls immediately.
Turn Silent Mode On or Off
If your Samsung phone still vibrates or plays sounds after you think you muted it, you might be mixing up Silent mode with Do Not Disturb or Mute all sounds. Each of these three functions behaves differently, and picking the wrong one leads to missed calls or unwanted noise at the wrong moment. Turn Camera Voice Commands On or Off
If your Samsung phone only snaps a photo when you tap the shutter button, press a volume key or use a floating release, you might be missing the hands-free option. Change Call Vibration Pattern
If every incoming call feels like the same long buzz, your Samsung phone is still set to the standard call vibration. One UI actually ships with several distinct patterns, including a heartbeat, a knocking rhythm and a waltz-style pulse, but most people never notice the option exists. Picking a different pattern helps you tell calls apart from notifications by feel alone, without looking at the screen.
Clear Call Log
Every incoming, outgoing, missed and rejected call stays listed in the Samsung Phone app until you remove it yourself. Old numbers, call times, durations and even the SIM card used pile up over weeks, which can be a privacy issue if someone else picks up your phone. There is no automatic cleanup, so the log only grows unless you clear it manually.
Turn Screen Rotation On or Off
If your Samsung screen stays locked in portrait mode even when you turn the device sideways, the Auto rotate function is switched off. The opposite problem also happens: the display keeps flipping between portrait and landscape when you just want it to stay put. Both behaviors come down to a single quick setting that controls whether the screen follows the physical orientation of the phone.
Turn On/Off Color Correction
If reds and greens blend together on your Samsung screen, or blue tones look washed out, reading charts, icons and notifications gets harder. This is usually not a display defect but an unadjusted color vision setting. Samsung includes filters for different types of color blindness, but they only help once enabled and matched to the right type.
Auto Optimize Settings for Battery Saving
If your Samsung phone still feels warm or the battery keeps dropping overnight even though you barely touched it, background tasks and unused settings are probably staying active the whole time. The Optimise settings feature is meant to clean this up automatically around midnight, but only when it's switched on. Left off, your device keeps every setting running at full power whether you're using the phone or it's sitting untouched on the nightstand.
Turn Bixby Launch on the Side Key On or Off
Long-pressing the power button used to switch off your Samsung phone, but on newer devices the same press launches Bixby instead. Samsung renamed the power button to a Side key and moved its behavior into a separate menu. If you keep triggering Bixby by accident while trying to turn the phone off, the Side key settings are where the conflict actually sits.
Turn On/Off Faster Face Recognition
If your Samsung phone unlocks even when someone holds up a photo or video of your face, the Faster recognition option is likely turned on. This setting speeds up face unlock but skips some of the depth checks that normally block spoofing attempts. Turning it off makes recognition a touch slower but much harder to trick.
Allow or Block Messages in Do Not Disturb
When Do Not Disturb is on, your Samsung phone hides every incoming SMS and MMS by default, even from close contacts. If you need certain texts to get through during quiet hours, the message exception list controls exactly who can reach you.
Turn On/Off Recycle Bin in Gallery
Deleted a photo or video by mistake and worried it is gone for good? On Samsung phones, the Gallery app can hold deleted files in a Trash folder before removing them permanently. If that safety net is switched off, one accidental swipe or tap on Delete removes the file immediately with no way back.
Make a Phone Call from the Dialer
If you are not sure how to start a call on your Samsung phone, the process runs through the dialer keypad, not just the contacts list. A missing or inactive SIM card is the most common reason a call will not connect, even when the number is entered correctly. Once the SIM is active, both manually typed numbers and saved contacts work the same way.
Enable or Disable Google Voice Typing
If the microphone icon is missing from your Samsung keyboard, Google voice typing is probably switched off in the keyboard settings. This feature turns spoken words into text while you type, but only works once it is active under Language and input. You can switch it on or off at any point without changing your default keyboard app.
Change Timer Sound
If the timer on your Samsung phone always plays the same tone, no matter which alarm or reminder you set, the Clock app is likely still using its default Timer sound. You can swap it for another preset tone or a custom sound file, but the option sits inside a separate sound menu that many people never open.
Turn Call Barring On or Off
If your Samsung phone keeps rejecting calls while roaming or blocks all outgoing calls without an obvious reason, Call barring is likely active in the background. This network-level restriction can lock out specific call types entirely, and changing it requires a network password from your carrier rather than your screen lock. Voice calls and video calls are controlled separately, which often causes confusion when only one type is affected.
Change Edge Panel Position
By default, the Edge panel and its handle sit on the right edge of your Samsung screen. If that spot gets in the way of your grip or another gesture, you can swap the handle to the left edge and slide it up or down instead of living with the factory position.
Quick Launch Camera via Side Key
Double-pressing the Side key should open the Camera app straight from the lock screen, but on some Samsung phones nothing happens or a different app launches instead. This shortcut lives in the Side key settings and often gets reset after a software update or a factory reset. A short check in Advanced features usually brings it back.
Turn Do Not Disturb On/Off
When Do Not Disturb silences every call and notification on your Samsung phone, a call from your parents can end up muted right along with spam. Do Not Disturb runs either as a manual toggle or on a fixed schedule, and it treats every contact the same until you define exceptions. Missing an urgent message or a wake-up alarm often traces back to this one setting being active without you noticing.
Manage Sleeping Apps
If a messaging app suddenly stops pushing notifications or a tracking app won't sync overnight, One UI may have put it to sleep. Background usage limits on Samsung phones can pause individual apps completely, so they neither update nor notify until you open them again. Knowing whether an app sits in Sleeping, Deep sleeping, or Never sleeping explains a lot of missed alerts.
Add or Remove Edge Panels
The Edge panel on your Samsung phone comes with a handful of panels active out of the box, but not every panel you might want is enabled - and you might be stuck with ones you never touch, like the calendar or direct dial panel. Extra panels, including a calculator panel, are available for free through the Galaxy Store but stay invisible until you select them in the panel list. Swiping in from the edge and seeing the wrong panels, or too few of them, usually just means the panel selection needs an update.
Turn Fast Charging On or Off
If your Samsung phone gets noticeably warm while charging or you worry about long-term battery wear, Fast charging in the battery settings is usually the reason. Leaving it active while the phone sits on the charger overnight adds unnecessary heat and stress to the battery for no real benefit.
Turn Dark Mode On or Off in Samsung Internet
If Samsung Internet still opens in a bright white layout even though your phone runs a dark theme, the browser has its own separate dark mode toggle. Some users only find a system-wide switch and assume the browser has no dark option at all, while others get a dark browser frame but pages still render bright. The setting sits inside the browser app itself, not in the general display settings.
Change Keyboard Mode on Samsung
Typing with one hand on a large screen turns into a stretching exercise when the Samsung keyboard stays locked to its full-width standard layout. The one-handed keyboard and floating keyboard fix reachability, but the toggle sits buried inside a settings menu most people never open.
