Turn Game Launcher On or Off
If your installed games sit scattered across the home screen and app drawer instead of being grouped in one place, Game Launcher is probably switched off. Turning it on also starts tracking your play time and unlocks Game Booster tools for blocking notifications while you play. Some people switch it back off when the extra overlay or usage tracking gets in the way during normal app use.
Show or Hide Declined Events in Calendar
If a meeting you declined still disappears from your calendar view instead of showing as declined, the Samsung Calendar app is hiding it on purpose. This happens because the 'Hide declined events' option is turned on by default, which removes any event you rejected from the schedule entirely. Once you know where that switch lives, you can bring those events back into view whenever you need a full record of your invitations.
Set Default SIM Card for Calls
If your Samsung phone keeps dialing out from SIM 1 even though you meant to call from SIM 2, the default call SIM is likely locked to the wrong card. You can also set the phone to ask every time before placing a call, which helps when you keep one SIM for work and one for personal contacts. This same setting can be changed directly from the status bar shortcut, not just deep inside the settings menu.
App Icon Badges: Enable or Disable per App
If your home screen keeps showing a red notification dot on apps you barely open, while a messaging app you actually check stays silent, the global App icon badges switch is not doing the job. Samsung lets you control badges for each app separately, but many people only ever touch the main toggle. Without checking the individual app settings, badges end up either everywhere or nowhere.
Change Home Screen Wallpaper
If your home screen still shows the old background after picking a new photo, Samsung One UI likely applied the change to the lock screen instead. The Wallpaper menu treats the start screen and lock screen as separate targets, so choosing the wrong one is the most common reason nothing visibly changes. This applies to both the built-in wallpaper packs and photos from your own gallery.
Change Alarm Volume
If your alarm sounds too quiet or too loud, the fix is not in your general sound settings. On Samsung phones, alarm volume is controlled separately for each alarm inside the Clock app, not through the main volume slider. Without knowing this, many people assume the alarm volume is stuck at one level.
Share Contacts as File or Text
Retyping a phone number or address for a friend wastes time and often introduces typos. If your Samsung phone feels like it is quietly reporting crashes and app behavior in the background, the diagnostic data feature is usually the reason. This setting sends error reports and usage patterns to Samsung to help fix bugs, but it also means data leaves your device without a visible notification. Many users only notice it when checking data usage or reviewing privacy settings after a factory reset.
Rearrange Quick Settings
Only five Quick settings toggles show up when you swipe down once, and the ones you actually need are not always among them. If Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Flashlight keep ending up out of reach, the toggle order in the notification panel needs a manual reset. The Quick settings editor lets you fix that without touching any deeper system menu.
Change Wallpaper on Lock Screen
Your lock screen still shows the same picture as your home screen even though you picked a new photo? Missing that separate step is the usual reason the lock screen never updates.
Add Emergency Contacts
If your phone is locked during an emergency, nobody can reach the people you trust unless they are saved as emergency contacts. Samsung ties this list to your Contacts profile, not to your regular address book, so numbers you already have saved will not show up on their own. Without this setup, SOS messages and lock-screen emergency calls have nobody to go to.
Create a Local Backup to SD Card
If your Samsung phone has no internet connection or you would rather skip Samsung Cloud and Google entirely, a local backup on the SD card or internal storage fills that gap. It runs on the External storage transfer function, which shares its engine with Smart Switch, so the file can later restore straight onto another Samsung device. This is worth doing before a factory reset, a SIM swap, or whenever cloud storage is full.
Turn Wi-Fi On or Off
If your Samsung phone refuses to connect to your router or keeps burning through battery searching for networks, the Wi-Fi toggle might simply be off or stuck on. Wi-Fi handles both local file sharing and your main path to the internet, so a wrong setting here blocks every online app at once. Switching it on or off from the system settings usually clears up connection drops and unwanted background scanning.
Turn Video Stabilization On or Off
If your videos look shaky despite recording handheld, or clips from the main camera suddenly seem oddly smoothed and slightly cropped, Video stabilization is the setting behind it. Samsung enables this correction by default, but only on the main camera, so footage from other lenses will not look the same. In fast pans or low light it can also introduce a subtle wobble or crop that some people prefer to turn off.
Allow Apps to Use Data While Data Saver Is On
When Data saver is active on a Samsung phone, background data gets cut for most apps, which often causes delayed messages, missing notifications or apps that refuse to sync until you open them manually. This happens because Data saver blocks mobile data in the background by default, even for apps you actually rely on. A few apps can be whitelisted individually so they keep working normally while the rest of your data stays restricted.
Turn On Automatic Backup to Samsung Cloud
If your Samsung phone only gets backed up when you remember to trigger it manually, automatic backup to Samsung Cloud is probably switched off. The Auto back up function saves selected categories like contacts, photos or app data on a schedule, but each category has its own toggle. Skip one setting and that data type stops being backed up even while the rest keeps running.
Add Widgets to the Home Screen

Add an Alternate Calendar
If dates on your Samsung calendar don't match the Lunar, Hijri, or Shamsi calendar you expected, the alternate calendar option is probably switched off. Samsung's Calendar app can show a second calendar system in smaller text next to the standard dates, but it stays hidden until you set it manually in Settings. This affects the Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese Lunar calendars as well as Hijri and Shamsi dates.
Set Side Key to End Calls

Samsung phones can end calls with a single press of the side key, but this option stays off by default. Until you switch it on, pressing the side key during a call just locks the screen or triggers whatever shortcut you set up elsewhere.
High Contrast Keyboard: Turn On or Off
If the stock keyboard is hard to read in bright light or the keys feel too small, a low-contrast color scheme is usually the cause. Samsung Keyboard has a built-in 'High contrast keyboard' mode that swaps the color scheme and enlarges key size at the same time. Availability and exact designs vary slightly depending on the Samsung model you use.
Turn Bluetooth Tethering On or Off
If your tablet, laptop, or smartwatch can't get online through your phone's Bluetooth connection, Bluetooth tethering is probably switched off. This feature turns your phone into a small Bluetooth hotspot and shares its mobile data with every paired device automatically.
Remove a Synced Account
When you disconnect from a service like Facebook on your Samsung phone, the app itself often stays signed in because the account is still linked in the system settings. This happens because Samsung keeps every added account - email, cloud, social media - in one central list that also controls background sync. Removing it there is the only way to stop the syncing and fully disconnect the account from the device.
Default Reminder Time for Calendar Events
Every new event in Samsung Calendar starts with a reminder set to 10 minutes before, and all-day events default to 5 p.m. the day before. If you keep adjusting these values by hand for each new entry, the app is falling back on its built-in alert defaults instead of your preferred timing. Changing the default once removes the need to reset the reminder every time you add an event.
Show Passwords While Typing
On Samsung phones, each password character flashes briefly on screen before turning into an asterisk. That preview helps you catch typos, but it also means anyone glancing at your display can read the character. Some users prefer to switch that flash off entirely so nothing ever appears on screen.
