Mark a Contact as Favorite
If a contact you call or text often keeps sliding down your list, Favorites pins them to the top - but only once the flag is actually switched on for that person. On Samsung phones this same flag also controls the pinned row in the Phone app, so the two lists never match up on their own.
Answering an Incoming Call
If tapping the green call icon does not seem to pick up the call, a single tap is not enough on Samsung phones. The call screen looks different depending on what you were doing before it rang: full screen when the phone was idle, a small pop-up window at the top when you were already using an app. Knowing which layout you are looking at changes where and how far you need to drag your finger.
Remove a Contact Group Member
If a contact group still includes someone who should no longer get group texts or calls, they have to be taken out manually. On Samsung phones there is no swipe-to-delete inside a group; you first need to switch into edit mode, which is where most people get stuck looking for a simple remove option.
Install Dual Messenger Apps
Switching between two WhatsApp or Facebook accounts on one phone usually means logging out and back in every time, which gets tedious fast on a dual-SIM device. Samsung's One UI includes a built-in function that installs a second, independent copy of supported messenger apps so both accounts stay logged in at once. Not every messenger app on your phone supports this, which is why the option sometimes seems to be missing.
Import Contacts from SIM or vCard File
If your contacts are stuck on an old SIM card or sitting in a vCard (.vcf) file, they won't show up in your phone until you pull them into the right account. Samsung phones can grab contacts from the SIM, internal storage, or a memory card, but picking the wrong source or target account is the most common reason the import seems to fail.
Show or Hide Calendar Accounts
The Samsung Calendar app lists every signed-in account, including My phone, Gmail, your Samsung account, App Events and Reminder, whether you want to see them or not. There is no option to permanently delete one of these entries from the calendar list. The only control you have is switching each account's visibility on or off.
Send a Group Text Message
Typing out the same text to five people one by one gets old fast, and picking each contact by hand in Messages is easy to mess up. If you already saved a group of people in Contacts, there is a faster way to reach everyone at once without adding them individually. The trick is knowing where the Groups option actually sits inside the Messages app.
Sync Calendar Manually
If you close the Calendar app and it keeps running in the background, new appointments and logged calls on your Samsung phone often don't show up until you restart the app. Data saving mode, battery saving mode, and background restrictions in Samsung One UI can all block the automatic sync. Forcing a manual sync brings the calendar up to date without waiting for the next automatic refresh.
Show or Hide Caller ID on Outgoing Calls
Your number pops up on the other person's screen even though you never turned that on, or it stays hidden when you need it visible for work calls. This behavior comes from a network-level default that Samsung phones inherit unless you change it in the phone app. The setting sits separate from Do Not Disturb or blocking and gets missed easily.
Add an Email Account (POP3/IMAP)
If your T-Online, Web.de or GMX address isn't showing up next to Gmail on your Samsung phone, it hasn't been linked through the right protocol yet. Samsung phones rely on the Gmail app as a collective inbox, but external providers only connect through POP3 or IMAP. Picking the wrong option here is why mail sometimes never arrives.
Change Calendar View
The Samsung Calendar app opens in month view by default, even if you prefer to track events by day or week. Switching to a different layout is done through a menu option that is easy to overlook the first time you look for it.
Show or Hide Frequently Contacted
If your Contacts app keeps showing a Frequently contacted section above your saved contacts, Samsung is tracking who you called or messaged most in the last 30 days. That list updates on its own and can expose contacts you would rather not have visible at a glance. The setting behind it sits in the Contacts app itself, not in your general phone settings.
Block or Unblock a Contact
If one saved contact keeps calling or texting after you have asked them to stop, blocking is the only way to silence both channels at once. The tricky part is that a blocked contact stays visible in your contact list and cannot be hidden, which surprises many users. Delete a Calendar Event
Cancelled appointments and outdated entries stay visible in the Samsung Calendar until you remove them manually. Old events pile up in the daily view and make it harder to spot what is actually still coming up. Deleting a single entry does not affect any other appointments stored in the calendar.
Set the First Day of the Week in Calendar
If your calendar always starts on Sunday even though you expect Monday, Samsung Calendar is following the standard location setting instead of your personal preference. This mix-up shows up right after a region change or a fresh device setup, and it throws off week numbers and planning views. Switching the start day yourself fixes the display without changing anything else in Calendar.
Block Unknown Callers Automatically
If your Samsung phone keeps ringing with calls that show no name or number, spam and private-number callers are getting through unfiltered. This happens because the option that blocks hidden caller IDs is turned off by default in the calling settings. Once switched on, any call without a visible phone number gets rejected before it can ring.
Set Side Key to End Calls
Reaching across the screen to hang up gets annoying fast, especially with one hand full or the phone mounted somewhere out of reach. Samsung phones can end calls with a single press of the side key, but this option stays off by default. Until you switch it on, pressing the side key during a call just locks the screen or triggers whatever shortcut you set up elsewhere.
Auto-Download MMS Toggle
If picture or video messages start downloading the moment they arrive, even over mobile data you would rather save, Samsung's Auto retrieve setting for multimedia messages is doing exactly what it's built for. Turning it off means MMS content stays queued until you decide to load it yourself.
Using Speed Dial Numbers for Calls
Speed dial numbers only work if you press and hold the correct digit on the dial pad instead of tapping it briefly. For two-digit speed dial slots like 14, you type the first digit normally and only hold down the second one. On phones with two SIM cards, missing the SIM selection step can also cause the call to fail.
Add a Speed Dial Number
Typing the same number every time you call a frequent contact wastes time, and many Samsung users are surprised that slot 1 is permanently blocked for voicemail. Speed dial can hold up to 999 shortcuts, using either a saved contact or a raw phone number, but the setup screen sits in a spot most people never check. Manage Calendar Colors
When several accounts sync into the Samsung Calendar app, every entry can end up in the same shade, making it hard to tell a work meeting from a personal appointment or a public holiday at a glance. This happens because each account keeps its default color until you assign a new one manually. The mix-up gets worse the more calendars you connect to your phone.
Edit a Contact Group
A contact group on your Samsung phone rarely stays useful forever. Team members change, a birthday club grows, and the group ringtone you picked months ago no longer matches the rest of your alerts. Renaming the group, swapping members, or changing its sound is not obvious if you have never opened the group settings before.
Send a Text Message (SMS/MMS)
Your text keeps splitting into multiple parts or a photo won't attach when you try to send a quick message on your Samsung phone. Both issues come down to how the Messages app switches between SMS and MMS depending on content and length. Knowing which mode is active helps you avoid extra charges and failed sends.
Turn Call Waiting On or Off
If a knocking tone interrupts your calls out of nowhere, or you never notice a second caller trying to reach you, Call waiting is probably set the way you don't want. This Samsung feature decides whether an incoming call during an active conversation gets signaled to you or blocked outright. Getting the setting wrong means either missed calls or unwanted interruptions mid-conversation.
