Sort Contacts by First or Last Name
If your contact list on a Samsung phone lines up alphabetically by first name when you expected last-name order, the sort setting inside the Contacts app is responsible, not the Phone app itself. Show or Hide Public Holidays in Calendar
If public holidays keep showing up in your Samsung Calendar even though you never added them, they are pulled in automatically from a signed-in Google Account. If your Contacts app keeps showing a Frequently contacted section above your saved contacts, Samsung is tracking who you called or messaged most in the last 30 days. That list updates on its own and can expose contacts you would rather not have visible at a glance. The setting behind it sits in the Contacts app itself, not in your general phone settings.
Set Action Time for Pop-up Notifications
If a pop-up notification or app banner disappears before you can read it or tap a button, the timeout is set too short for your reaction speed. On Samsung phones this delay is controlled by an accessibility setting, not by the notification app itself. A short timeout also affects pop-up windows that need a quick response, like permission prompts.
Create a Contact Group
Sending the same text to five people one at a time gets old fast, and forwarding photos to the same circle of friends over and over wastes time. Samsung's Contacts app lets you bundle recipients into a group, so calls, texts, and emails go out to everyone at once. You can also give the group its own ringtone to spot incoming calls immediately.
Turn Camera Voice Commands On or Off
If your Samsung phone only snaps a photo when you tap the shutter button, press a volume key or use a floating release, you might be missing the hands-free option. Samsung Camera also supports a voice shutter that lets you say a command instead of touching the screen. This only works once the Voice commands option is switched on in the camera settings.
Enable Suspicious Network Detection for Wi-Fi
Connecting to a public Wi-Fi hotspot at a cafe or airport can quietly redirect your traffic through a rogue captive portal without any warning on screen. Samsung devices include a background check that flags this kind of suspicious network behavior, but the toggle for it is easy to miss and sometimes gets switched off during a reset. Knowing what actually happens to that duplicate clears up the confusion.
Turn Bixby Launch on the Side Key On or Off
Long-pressing the power button used to switch off your Samsung phone, but on newer devices the same press launches Bixby instead. Samsung renamed the power button to a Side key and moved its behavior into a separate menu. If you keep triggering Bixby by accident while trying to turn the phone off, the Side key settings are where the conflict actually sits.
Turn On/Off Faster Face Recognition
If your Samsung phone unlocks even when someone holds up a photo or video of your face, the Faster recognition option is likely turned on. Change Timer Sound
If the timer on your Samsung phone always plays the same tone, no matter which alarm or reminder you set, the Clock app is likely still using its default Timer sound. You can swap it for another preset tone or a custom sound file, but the option sits inside a separate sound menu that many people never open.
