Exclude Apps from Automatic Sleep Mode
If a messaging or fitness app stops sending notifications hours after you last opened it, Samsung's background power management is probably putting it into deep sleep. Apps in that state get delayed sync, skip background refreshes, and often miss push alerts. You can protect specific apps from this automatic sleep behavior instead of disabling battery optimization for everything.
View Messages Stored on the SIM Card
Older Samsung phones let you save SMS directly on the SIM card, but current devices no longer write new texts there under normal use. If a SIM card still holds old messages, the Messages app hides that folder inside a separate settings menu instead of showing it in the main inbox.
Change SIM Card Icon
If both SIM slots show the same generic card icon in the status bar and quick panel, it gets hard to tell which SIM handles calls and which one runs mobile data. One UI lets you assign a different icon and color to each SIM, but that option sits inside the SIM card manager, not in the notification shade. Without changing it, both lines stay visually identical until you tap into the settings.
Turn Do Not Disturb On/Off
When Do Not Disturb silences every call and notification on your Samsung phone, a call from your parents can end up muted right along with spam. Do Not Disturb runs either as a manual toggle or on a fixed schedule, and it treats every contact the same until you define exceptions. Missing an urgent message or a wake-up alarm often traces back to this one setting being active without you noticing.
Add Birthday to a Contact
If a friend's contact card in Samsung Contacts has no space for a birthday, the field is not missing - it is just hidden by default. Samsung keeps birthday, anniversary and other important dates tucked away behind an extra menu step, so most people never notice it exists. Once you know where to look, adding the date takes only a few taps.
Add an App to Do Not Disturb Exceptions
If WhatsApp calls or Facebook messages stay silent while Do Not Disturb is active, the app is not listed as an exception yet. Samsung mutes every notification by default once the mode is on, even from apps you consider urgent. Adding the app to the exception list lets its alerts pass through regardless of the mode.
Turn On/Off Widgets on Lock Screen
If the music player, next alarm, or calendar no longer shows up on your Samsung lock screen, the Widgets option is likely switched off. Some people want the opposite and disable widgets entirely, since alarms, app info, or playback controls can be visible without unlocking the device. Both directions are controlled from the same lock screen setting.
Hide or Unhide Gallery Albums
When apps like messaging, social media, or cloud backups create extra folders in your Gallery, the album list gets cluttered fast. These auto-generated albums often hold screenshots, downloads, or app-specific media you never meant to scroll through daily. Samsung Gallery lets you hide those albums from the overview without deleting any photos or videos inside them.
Add Bookmark Shortcut to Home Screen
If you open the same website every day, digging through saved bookmarks in Samsung Internet gets old fast. Pinning that page to your home screen turns it into a tappable icon, right next to your apps, that you can move or drop into a folder like any other shortcut.
Turn Open-Eyes Requirement for Face Recognition On or Off
If your Samsung phone unlocks with Face recognition even when your eyes are closed, the open-eyes requirement is probably switched off. On some devices it works the other way around, and the phone refuses to unlock unless your eyes are wide open, which gets annoying if you wear glasses or are half asleep. Both behaviors trace back to a single toggle in the security settings.
Remove Face Recognition Data
If facial unlock keeps failing or you no longer want your phone to recognize your face, the stored face data is still sitting in Biometrics and security. Beard changes, glasses, or a general preference for PIN unlock can make this scan outdated. Removing it disables Face Unlock until you set it up again.
Change USB Connection Mode
After the first cable connection, Samsung remembers whatever USB purpose you picked and stops asking again. If that means your phone keeps loading as Charging only instead of File Transfer, moving photos or documents to a computer stops working until you switch the mode manually.
Turn Ultra Wide Shape Correction On or Off
Wide-angle shots often bend straight lines near the edges of the frame, especially with faces or buildings close to the border. This warping, known as the fish-eye effect, comes from the ultra-wide lens itself. Samsung One UI can straighten these edges automatically, but the toggle is easy to overlook in the camera settings.
Restore Default Theme
After trying a downloaded theme, a Samsung phone can end up looking nothing like the original layout. Icons, wallpaper, and app drawer colors from the custom theme often stay active even after you delete the theme file. Getting back the stock look needs a separate reset inside the Themes app rather than a simple uninstall.
Add a Photo to a Contact
If a contact still shows only the first letter of the name or one of the animated default images that come with your Samsung device, calls and messages look generic instead of personal. This happens because no custom photo has been assigned to that contact yet. Swapping in your own picture makes the caller instantly recognizable on the call screen and in Messages.
Show or Hide the Lockdown Button in the Power Menu
Face Detection, Smart Lock and even the fingerprint sensor are convenient, but none of them is the strongest lock on your phone. Samsung adds a Lockdown entry to the power menu that forces a PIN, pattern or password before anyone gets in, overriding those biometric shortcuts. If that button is missing, or you want it gone for good, the toggle sits in a spot most people never check.
Show or Hide Caller ID on Outgoing Calls
Your number pops up on the other person's screen even though you never turned that on, or it stays hidden when you need it visible for work calls. This behavior comes from a network-level default that Samsung phones inherit unless you change it in the phone app. The setting sits separate from Do Not Disturb or blocking and gets missed easily.
Show or Hide Public Holidays in Calendar
If public holidays keep showing up in your Samsung Calendar even though you never added them, they are pulled in automatically from a signed-in Google Account. Which country's holidays appear depends on the region or language set in your system preferences, not on the calendar app itself. Turning them off means adjusting the display settings for that specific account, not deleting entries one by one.
Show or Hide Frequently Contacted
If your Contacts app keeps showing a Frequently contacted section above your saved contacts, Samsung is tracking who you called or messaged most in the last 30 days. That list updates on its own and can expose contacts you would rather not have visible at a glance. The setting behind it sits in the Contacts app itself, not in your general phone settings.
Set Up Smart Lock
If your Samsung phone still asks for a PIN at home, in the car, or when it is paired with your smartwatch, Smart Lock is probably switched off. This Android feature keeps the device unlocked when it detects a trusted place, a trusted Bluetooth device, or that you are carrying it. Without it enabled, you fall back to manual unlocking every single time, even in low-risk situations.
Change SIM Card PIN
If your carrier has SIM PIN protection turned on, your phone asks for that code every time you restart it or reinsert the card. Many people never changed this PIN from the default one their provider assigned, which is a security risk if the phone gets lost. On a Dual SIM device you also need to pick the correct slot before the change takes effect.
Remove Apps from Secure Folder
Apps inside Secure Folder run as separate copies, so deleting them there never touches the original app installed on your phone. Tapping and holding an app icon and hitting Uninstall looks like a shortcut, but it is easy to pick the wrong option or wonder why the app still exists outside Secure Folder afterward. Knowing what actually happens to that duplicate clears up the confusion.
Turn On/Off Message Delivery Reports
If you send a text message and never see a confirmation that it arrived, delivery reports are probably switched off on your Samsung phone. This status, called Show when delivered, marks the exact moment the recipient's device receives your message. Carriers process this confirmation without extra charge in almost all cases.
Back Up Secure Folder Data
Your Secure Folder content stays out of every regular Samsung backup, so files you drop inside it can vanish for good if the device is reset, lost, or replaced. Because the backup itself gets stored to your Samsung account rather than to the device backup, skipping this step leaves apps, photos, and documents inside Secure Folder completely unprotected.
