Change Preferred Network Mode
If your Samsung phone keeps dropping to a slower connection or won't pick up 4G or 5G even with full signal bars, the Network mode setting might be locked to an older standard. This option decides whether the device connects using 2G, 3G, 4G, or 5G, and a wrong choice here cuts off faster networks completely. On dual-SIM models each SIM slot has its own separate setting.
Mark a Contact as Favorite
If a contact you call or text often keeps sliding down your list, Favorites pins them to the top - but only once the flag is actually switched on for that person. On Samsung phones this same flag also controls the pinned row in the Phone app, so the two lists never match up on their own.
Send a File via Bluetooth
Sharing a photo or document with a paired Bluetooth device does not always work through the usual share sheet. If the receiving phone or tablet does not show up in the device list, the transfer stalls before it starts. This applies to photos, documents and videos moved directly between two Samsung devices without Wi-Fi or a cable.
Enable Grid Lines in Camera
Framing a shot by eye often leaves the horizon tilted or the subject off-center in the final photo. Samsung cameras include an on-screen grid overlay meant to fix this, but many people never notice the toggle or don't know which pattern fits their shot. Portraits and landscapes benefit from different grid styles, so picking the wrong one still leaves composition guesswork.
Play Tone When Call Connects
If you dial a number and hear nothing until the other person picks up, the connection tone that normally confirms an outgoing call has been switched off. Some Samsung phones ship with this sound disabled after a system update, so you lose the familiar ring back tone. The setting sits in the call settings and is easy to miss if you are not looking for it by name.
Turn Swipe Typing On or Off on the Keyboard
If dragging your finger across the letters does nothing, or the keyboard keeps guessing the wrong word while you glide between keys, the built-in gesture typing might be switched off or set to the wrong mode. Samsung labels this feature keyboard swipe control, while most other Android keyboards call the same trick glide typing or swipe typing. Getting the setting right decides whether the keyboard reacts to continuous finger movement at all.
Turn JavaScript On or Off in Samsung Internet
If buttons, menus, or forms suddenly stop reacting on a website in Samsung Internet, JavaScript has often been switched off. Some pages refuse to load content at all without it, since most modern sites rely on the scripting language for interactive elements. The toggle for this sits buried inside the browser's site permissions and is easy to overlook.
Check for Software Updates
If your Samsung phone still shows the old software version, the automatic background check may not have run yet. Update search only happens at set intervals, so a released patch can sit unnoticed for hours or longer. Triggering a manual check tells you right away whether a new version is actually available.
Edit a Contact Group
A contact group on your Samsung phone rarely stays useful forever. Team members change, a birthday club grows, and the group ringtone you picked months ago no longer matches the rest of your alerts. Renaming the group, swapping members, or changing its sound is not obvious if you have never opened the group settings before.
Change Default Messaging App
If your preferred messaging app never opens incoming texts, Samsung is still routing standard SMS through its own Messages app. Samsung lets you actively pick which app handles text messages, unlike some other Android setups. A screen lock combined with a restart can also delay message loading until you unlock the device once.
Remove a Contact Group Member
If a contact group still includes someone who should no longer get group texts or calls, they have to be taken out manually. On Samsung phones there is no swipe-to-delete inside a group; you first need to switch into edit mode, which is where most people get stuck looking for a simple remove option.
Install Dual Messenger Apps
Switching between two WhatsApp or Facebook accounts on one phone usually means logging out and back in every time, which gets tedious fast on a dual-SIM device. Samsung's One UI includes a built-in function that installs a second, independent copy of supported messenger apps so both accounts stay logged in at once. Not every messenger app on your phone supports this, which is why the option sometimes seems to be missing.
Show or Hide Weather in World Clock
If every city in your Samsung World Clock list shows a small weather icon next to the time, that extra data can make a long list feel cluttered fast. The weather display comes from the same location data used for the time difference, and it applies to all saved cities at once, not just one. You can turn this display on or off without deleting any of the clocks you already added.
Activate a Downloaded Keyboard
A new keyboard from the Play Store shows up as installed but never appears as an option when you try to switch input methods. Samsung keeps every keyboard disabled by default until you turn it on in the keyboard management settings. Without this step, the downloaded keyboard stays invisible even though it is already on your phone.
Import Contacts from SIM or vCard File
If your contacts are stuck on an old SIM card or sitting in a vCard (.vcf) file, they won't show up in your phone until you pull them into the right account. Samsung phones can grab contacts from the SIM, internal storage, or a memory card, but picking the wrong source or target account is the most common reason the import seems to fail.
Change Screenshot File Format
By default, every screenshot on your Samsung phone gets saved as a JPG, which compresses the image and can slightly soften text or fine details. If you need sharper captures for documents, UI comparisons, or editing work, JPG's lossy compression becomes a real limitation. Switching the format to PNG keeps every pixel intact at the cost of a slightly larger file size.
Wi-Fi Auto Reconnect Toggle
If your Samsung phone keeps rejoining a Wi-Fi network you deliberately left, or refuses to reconnect to a saved network on its own, the Auto reconnect setting is the reason. This option decides whether the device automatically re-establishes a connection to networks it has used before. When it is turned off, you have to tap the network manually every time it comes back into range.
Turn On Secret Mode in the Internet App
If browsing history, cookies, and saved form data keep showing up after you close a tab, the Internet app is still saving everything by default. Secret mode stops Samsung's browser from storing history, cookies, site data, or site permissions for the whole browsing session, not just one tab. On a shared device or public Wi-Fi, skipping this setting leaves a full trail behind for the next person who opens the browser.
Turn Call Waiting On or Off
If a knocking tone interrupts your calls out of nowhere, or you never notice a second caller trying to reach you, Call waiting is probably set the way you don't want. This Samsung feature decides whether an incoming call during an active conversation gets signaled to you or blocked outright. Getting the setting wrong means either missed calls or unwanted interruptions mid-conversation.
Select Network Automatically
If your Samsung phone keeps losing signal or sticks to a weak carrier after you picked a network by hand, the automatic search feature is switched off. Once you select a network manually, Select automatically stays disabled until you turn it back on yourself. This mostly shows up while traveling or right after inserting a new SIM.
Show or Hide Calendar Accounts
The Samsung Calendar app lists every signed-in account, including My phone, Gmail, your Samsung account, App Events and Reminder, whether you want to see them or not. There is no option to permanently delete one of these entries from the calendar list. The only control you have is switching each account's visibility on or off.
Turn Notification Reminders On or Off
By default your Samsung phone only announces a new notification once, with a tone or vibration depending on the sound mode. If you tend to miss messages because you were busy or the screen was off, a single alert is not enough. Notification reminders let the device nudge you again at a set interval until you actually open the notification.
Move Contacts to Another Storage Location
If your contacts are split between the SIM card, the phone memory and a synced account, finding the right entry can get confusing fast. Samsung's contact app lets you shift entries from one storage location to another without deleting and re-adding them. This matters most when you swap SIM cards, switch accounts, or clean up duplicate entries after a sync.
Save a Web Page as PDF
Recipes, route planners or a step-by-step guide often disappear once you close the tab, lose signal or the page gets updated. Bookmarking only keeps a link, and the offline saving option in the Samsung Internet browser does not always preserve the layout. Exporting the page as a PDF keeps the text, images and formatting stored directly on your phone.
