Import Contacts from SIM or vCard File
If your contacts are stuck on an old SIM card or sitting in a vCard (.vcf) file, they won't show up in your phone until you pull them into the right account. Samsung phones can grab contacts from the SIM, internal storage, or a memory card, but picking the wrong source or target account is the most common reason the import seems to fail.
Restore Backup from Samsung Cloud
After a factory reset or on a new Samsung phone, photos, contacts, and app data can be missing even though a backup exists in Samsung Cloud. This usually happens because the restore step was skipped during setup or the wrong backup was selected. The right backup needs to be picked manually before missing apps and files come back.
Rename a Fingerprint

The Samsung Calendar app lists every signed-in account, including My phone, Gmail, your Samsung account, App Events and Reminder, whether you want to see them or not. Enable or Disable Quick Launch Camera
If a double press of the power button keeps opening your camera at the wrong moment, or you want that shortcut back after it stopped working, the Quick launch camera option is behind it. This function reacts to the side key whether the screen is on or off, and it ships active on most Samsung phones. A few taps let you turn it off or bring it back.
Move Contacts to Another Storage Location
If your contacts are split between the SIM card, the phone memory and a synced account, finding the right entry can get confusing fast. Samsung's contact app lets you shift entries from one storage location to another without deleting and re-adding them. This matters most when you swap SIM cards, switch accounts, or clean up duplicate entries after a sync.
Change System Sound Volume
If the sound for taking a screenshot or capturing a photo suddenly cannot be turned off on its own anymore, Samsung has likely bundled it into a shared system sound category. This means several alert tones now share one volume slider instead of separate toggles. Adjusting the level for this group affects every sound tied to it at once, not just one action.
Save a Web Page as PDF
Recipes, route planners or a step-by-step guide often disappear once you close the tab, lose signal or the page gets updated. Bookmarking only keeps a link, and the offline saving option in the Samsung Internet browser does not always preserve the layout. Exporting the page as a PDF keeps the text, images and formatting stored directly on your phone.
Adjust Always On Display Brightness
If the Always On Display looks too dim or too bright at a glance, Auto brightness might be overriding your manual settings. Samsung ties AOD brightness to ambient light unless you switch to manual control, which can leave the clock hard to read in bright rooms or too glaring at night.
Turn Adaptive Power Saving On or Off
If apps you rarely open stop sending notifications or refuse to sync in the background, Adaptive power saving is likely throttling them without asking you first. This automation tracks how often you use each app and quietly cuts background access to the ones it decides you barely need. Turning it off hands manual control back to you for every app's power behavior.
Turn Adaptive Brightness On or Off
If your Samsung screen keeps dimming or brightening on its own, Adaptive brightness is adjusting the display based on ambient light and overriding your manual brightness slider. This can leave the screen too dark indoors or too bright outdoors, even right after you set it manually. The setting learns from your adjustments over time, which is why the behavior can feel unpredictable.
Turn Google Drive Backup On or Off
If your Samsung phone seems to back up the same data twice, Google Drive backup might be running alongside Samsung Cloud without you noticing. This can quietly eat into your Google storage or leave you unsure which backup actually holds your latest photos and app data. Knowing where this toggle sits helps you decide which backup system to rely on.
Delete a Contact Group
If a contact group on your Samsung phone has outlived its purpose, it stays listed in your Contacts app until you remove it manually. You can delete just the group label or wipe the group together with every stored member. One group, Emergency contacts, cannot be removed this way.
Create a Folder on the Home Screen
Your Home screen fills up fast when every app gets its own icon, and scrolling through several pages just to find one app gets tiresome. Samsung lets you group icons into folders, but the option only shows up once you enter the icon selection mode instead of a regular menu. Connect to Wi-Fi via QR Code
Typing out a long WLAN password on a guest's phone wastes time and usually ends in a typo or two. Samsung's Wi-Fi QR code scanner reads the network credentials straight from another device's shared code, so you skip manual entry completely. The catch: the other device has to generate and display that QR code first before your phone can scan it.
Add a Wi-Fi Network Manually
If your router does not appear in the Wi-Fi list, it usually means the network is hidden and not broadcasting its name. In that case you have to add it by hand using the exact SSID and, if the network is secured, the correct password. A typo in either field is the most common reason the connection still fails afterward.
Turn On/Off Bedtime Mode
If your Samsung phone suddenly switches to grayscale and notifications stop coming through at night, Bedtime mode is likely active. Held-back alerts only appear once the scheduled period ends, which can make it look like your phone stopped receiving messages entirely. This differs from Do Not Disturb, since Bedtime mode also dims the display and can run on a fixed schedule.
Set Date Manually
If the date field on your Samsung phone is greyed out, the device is still pulling the date from the mobile network. You need to turn off that automatic sync before you can pick a specific day, month or year yourself. This usually happens after a SIM swap, while traveling, or when testing an app that behaves differently on certain dates.
Add Trusted Devices for Smart Lock
If your Samsung phone still asks for a PIN every time you get in the car or plug in your headphones, Smart Lock is not recognizing your Bluetooth accessory as trusted yet. Without a registered device, the phone falls back to full lock screen security even when it is clearly connected to something you use daily. Adding the right accessory as a trusted device lets the phone skip the lock screen automatically while that connection is active.
Back Up Data to Samsung Cloud
A phone that gets lost, stolen or bricked takes any local backup with it. If contacts, photos or app data only exist on the device itself, a factory reset or hardware failure wipes them for good. Backing them up to your Samsung account keeps a copy safe outside the phone.
Change Edge Lighting Effects and Colors
By default, Edge lighting shows new notifications with a blue spotlight effect no matter which app sends them. That makes it hard to tell notifications apart without unlocking the screen. Samsung One UI offers several alternative effects and a full color picker to fix that.
