Turn Subtitles On or Off
If captions stay off during video playback or look different from app to app, you are probably dealing with two separate subtitle systems on your Samsung phone. Samsung subtitles and Google subtitles (CC) both add captions but sit in different menus and offer different styling options. Knowing which one is active decides whether size, color and background of the text can even be changed.
Hide Apps from the Home Screen
If an app icon keeps cluttering your Samsung home screen even though you barely use it, uninstalling feels too drastic, especially for preinstalled apps you might need later. One UI has a built-in Hide apps option that removes the icon from the home and apps screens without deleting anything. Reset Camera Settings

If every menu, notification, and app on your Galaxy phone still shows the same default typeface, the system font hasn't been changed yet. Until you adjust this setting in Display, the interface keeps the factory look everywhere.
Move Photos and Videos to an Album
Photos and videos from your camera or downloads often end up scattered across different albums, making it hard to find anything later. Samsung Gallery lets you move or copy several files into one album at once, but the prompt asking whether to copy or move can be confusing the first time you see it.
Export Contacts as vCard
Switching to a new phone or backing up your contact list only works if you can get every saved entry out of the Contacts app in one file. Without exporting first, you are left copying numbers one by one. Samsung phones can bundle everything into a single vCard file that other devices, apps and services can read.
Show or Hide Frequently Contacted
If your Contacts app keeps showing a Frequently contacted section above your saved contacts, Samsung is tracking who you called or messaged most in the last 30 days. That list updates on its own and can expose contacts you would rather not have visible at a glance. The setting behind it sits in the Contacts app itself, not in your general phone settings.
Enable Suspicious Network Detection for Wi-Fi
Connecting to a public Wi-Fi hotspot at a cafe or airport can quietly redirect your traffic through a rogue captive portal without any warning on screen. Samsung devices include a background check that flags this kind of suspicious network behavior, but the toggle for it is easy to miss and sometimes gets switched off during a reset. If the feature is disabled, your phone stays silent even when a network tries to intercept requests.
Switch Navigation Bar Between Buttons and Gestures
If your Samsung phone shows three buttons at the bottom instead of a slim gesture bar - or the other way round - you can switch the layout yourself. Some people find the thin gesture bar too easy to trigger by accident, while others miss the dedicated Back button once gestures are active. The right setup depends on how confidently you swipe versus tap.
Turn On/Off Message Delivery Reports
If you send a text message and never see a confirmation that it arrived, delivery reports are probably switched off on your Samsung phone. This status, called Show when delivered, marks the exact moment the recipient's device receives your message. Carriers process this confirmation without extra charge in almost all cases.
Turn On/Off Faster Face Recognition
If your Samsung phone unlocks even when someone holds up a photo or video of your face, the Faster recognition option is likely turned on. This setting speeds up face unlock but skips some of the depth checks that normally block spoofing attempts. Turning it off makes recognition a touch slower but much harder to trick.
Allow or Deny Picture-in-Picture Access
If a video keeps playing in a floating window even after you close the app, or that floating window never shows up at all, the picture-in-picture permission for the app is set the wrong way. Samsung manages this per app, separate from the general multitasking settings, so one app can float freely while another stays blocked. Checking this permission clears up both problems in a few taps.
Switch to Mobile Data Automatically
When your Wi-Fi signal turns weak or drops out, apps can freeze or fail to load even though the Wi-Fi icon still shows full bars. Samsung phones include a 'Switch to mobile data' option that hands the connection over to your cellular network once Wi-Fi quality drops too low. Without it enabled, your phone keeps trying to use a bad Wi-Fi signal instead of switching over on its own.
Set the First Day of the Week in Calendar
If your calendar always starts on Sunday even though you expect Monday, Samsung Calendar is following the standard location setting instead of your personal preference. This mix-up shows up right after a region change or a fresh device setup, and it throws off week numbers and planning views. Switching the start day yourself fixes the display without changing anything else in Calendar.
Change Edge Panel Position
By default, the Edge panel and its handle sit on the right edge of your Samsung screen. If that spot gets in the way of your grip or another gesture, you can swap the handle to the left edge and slide it up or down instead of living with the factory position.
Quick Launch Camera via Side Key
Double-pressing the Side key should open the Camera app straight from the lock screen, but on some Samsung phones nothing happens or a different app launches instead. This shortcut lives in the Side key settings and often gets reset after a software update or a factory reset. A short check in Advanced features usually brings it back.
Change Default Browser App
If every link you tap opens in Samsung Internet instead of Chrome, Firefox, or whatever browser you actually prefer, your phone is still using Samsung Internet as the system default. This happens even after you install a new browser, because Samsung keeps the original default active until you switch it yourself. Once you know where that setting lives, moving to another browser only takes a few taps.
Allow or Block Display Over Other Apps
When a chat bubble or floating icon from an app like Facebook Messenger keeps covering your screen no matter what you open, that app has permission to draw over other apps. Some tools need this to work, like screen recorders or floating widgets, but many apps request it without a clear reason. If the overlay gets in the way or feels like a privacy risk, you can turn it off per app.
Change Keyboard Mode on Samsung
Typing with one hand on a large screen turns into a stretching exercise when the Samsung keyboard stays locked to its full-width standard layout. The one-handed keyboard and floating keyboard fix reachability, but the toggle sits buried inside a settings menu most people never open.
Auto-Lock Secure Folder Settings
By default, Secure Folder on Samsung phones only locks once the screen turns off, which leaves your private apps and files exposed for longer than expected if someone grabs the phone while it's still active. If you want it to lock immediately, right after a restart, or after a fixed amount of time instead, that behavior sits in a setting most people never touch.
Keep Symbol Panel Open: Turn On or Off
When typing on the Samsung keyboard, a magnified preview of the character you tapped pops up over the key, no matter if alternate characters are active. If this popup gets in the way of fast typing, the 'Keep symbol panel open' option is the setting causing it.
Remove a Synced Account
When you disconnect from a service like Facebook on your Samsung phone, the app itself often stays signed in because the account is still linked in the system settings. This happens because Samsung keeps every added account - email, cloud, social media - in one central list that also controls background sync. Removing it there is the only way to stop the syncing and fully disconnect the account from the device.
Filter the Contact List by Account
If your Contacts app mixes Google, Samsung, and SIM entries into one long list, finding the right person during a call or while messaging gets tedious. Samsung lets you narrow the display to a single account or a custom selection instead of showing every contact source at once.
Turn On Wi-Fi Sharing (Wi-Fi Repeater Mode)
Your Samsung phone's Mobile Hotspot normally broadcasts your mobile data connection, not the Wi-Fi network you are already connected to. If you want the phone to act as a repeater and extend an existing Wi-Fi signal to other devices, that behavior sits behind a separate 'Wi-Fi sharing' switch hidden inside the hotspot's advanced settings. Without enabling it, devices that join your hotspot stay on cellular data even though your phone already has a working Wi-Fi connection.
