Customize Lock Screen Notification Style
By default, Samsung phones show a small app icon on the lock screen for every new notification, without any details. If you want to see who messaged you or read a preview before unlocking, that icon-only view can feel too limited. One UI lets you switch between a compact icon and a full notification card, including options for hiding content or adjusting background transparency.
Set an Alarm
If you only see one alarm on your Samsung phone, it looks like you're stuck with a single wake-up time. The Clock app actually lets you add as many separate alarms as you need, each with its own time, days, name, tone and vibration pattern, but the option to create a new one isn't always where you expect it to be.
Delete an Alarm
When your Clock app fills up with old wake-up times, work alarms, and one-off reminders, finding the one you actually need gets tedious. Samsung lets you attach a separate ringtone and vibration pattern to a single contact, so you know who is calling before you look. This works with both built-in tones and audio files you already have on the device.
Change System Sound Volume
If the sound for taking a screenshot or capturing a photo suddenly cannot be turned off on its own anymore, Samsung has likely bundled it into a shared system sound category. This means several alert tones now share one volume slider instead of separate toggles. Adjusting the level for this group affects every sound tied to it at once, not just one action.
Turn On/Off Bedtime Mode
If your Samsung phone suddenly switches to grayscale and notifications stop coming through at night, Bedtime mode is likely active. Held-back alerts only appear once the scheduled period ends, which can make it look like your phone stopped receiving messages entirely. This differs from Do Not Disturb, since Bedtime mode also dims the display and can run on a fixed schedule.
Change Ringtone Volume
If your phone barely rings during incoming calls even though media volume is turned up, the volume keys are probably adjusting the wrong stream. On many Samsung phones, pressing the side buttons on the home screen changes media volume by default and leaves the actual ringer level untouched.
Set a Custom Ringtone

Little red dots or numbers keep piling up on app icons even after you have already checked the app. This comes from the App icon badges function baked into the home screen settings, and it applies to every app at once rather than one by one. If the count feels distracting or just wrong, it is worth knowing exactly which switch controls it.
Turn On/Off Vibrate When Answered
You accept a call but get no confirmation that the connection actually went through, especially with the phone in your pocket or away from your ear. On Samsung phones, a short vibration when you answer closes that gap, but it runs on a separate setting from your normal ringtone vibration. Many users only notice it is off after a settings reset or a new device setup.
Silence Notifications from Individual Apps
When a chat app keeps buzzing and popping up on your lock screen even though you only want it visible in the status bar, the app's notification settings are still set to full alerts. Samsung lets you mute sound and lock-screen previews for one app while every other app keeps notifying normally. Getting this wrong usually means adjusting the wrong toggle under sound or vibration instead of the app's own notification category.
Snooze a Notification
If a notification pops up at the wrong moment, dismissing it means losing track of it completely. Samsung phones let you hide a notification and bring it back after a set time instead of swiping it away for good. Once the timer runs out, the alert returns with its usual sound and pop-up, just like the first time.
Turn Vibrate When Call Ends On or Off
If your Samsung phone buzzes right after a call disconnects, that comes from a separate call alert, not your regular vibration mode. Some people rely on the buzz to notice a dropped call without checking the screen, others find it jarring when it fires during a meeting. The setting sits inside the Phone app rather than the general sound profile, which is why silent mode alone does not always turn it off.
