Empty the Gallery Recycle Bin
Deleted photos and videos in the Samsung Gallery app do not disappear right away. They sit in the Trash for a set number of days before Samsung removes them automatically, and until then they still take up storage space. If you need to free up space immediately or make sure sensitive files are gone for good, you have to clear the Trash yourself.
One-Handed Mode Toggle
If your Samsung phone feels too big to use with one hand, reaching the top corners of the screen means constantly shifting your grip. One-handed mode shrinks the display into a smaller window you can move to either side. Without it turned on, you are stuck using both hands for anything above the lower part of the screen.
Change Always On Display Orientation
On Samsung phones, the Always On Display defaults to portrait orientation even when the phone sits flat in a stand, car mount, or dock turned sideways. That leaves the clock and icons rotated on their side instead of readable across the screen. The fix sits in a setting most people never open because it is separate from the normal screen rotation toggle.
Set Up a VPN Connection
Streaming services blocking your location, unsecured public Wi-Fi, or a company network that only accepts encrypted traffic - all of these push you toward a VPN. On Samsung phones the connection only routes through a VPN server once a valid profile has been created manually, since One UI does not ship with preset providers.
Turn Mobile Hotspot On or Off
If you need to share your Samsung phone's mobile data connection with a laptop, tablet, or another phone, Mobile Hotspot has to be switched on first. Without it, nearby devices cannot detect your phone as a Wi-Fi access point at all. Many people also struggle to find where this toggle sits once they need to turn it off again to save data or battery.
Mute a Conversation in Messages
When one contact keeps sending message after message, your phone keeps lighting up and buzzing even though you have no interest in leaving that chat entirely. Samsung Messages lets you silence a single conversation without blocking the sender or deleting the thread. The notification setting for that one chat works independently from your general Messages notifications, so muting a contact won't affect alerts from anyone else.
Delete Cookies and Site Data in Samsung Internet
If Samsung Internet keeps showing you the same ads or logs you out of sites you visit often, stored cookies are usually behind it. Site data builds up quietly in the background and can slow down page loading over time. Clearing it wipes the tracking history without touching your saved passwords or bookmarks.
Rename Contact Group
If a contact group on your Samsung phone still shows the wrong name, the fix only applies to groups you created yourself. Default groups like Family, Colleagues or Friends cannot be renamed, which often confuses users trying to clean up their address book.
Turn Data Saver On or Off
If apps stop syncing or notifications only show up after you open them, Data saver is probably cutting their background connection. This mode blocks mobile data for apps running in the background, which can delay messages, emails and updates until you check the app manually. Some apps can still be allowed to use data in the background even while data saving stays active.
Set Up Screen Saver
If your Samsung screen saver never appears while charging, or the wrong image type keeps loading, the Screen saver settings usually need a second look. One UI lets you pick between a color change, a photo frame, a single photo, or a photo table, but the toggle for turning the feature on or off sits a few taps deep in Display settings. Getting the wrong option selected often means the screen saver either never triggers or shows content you did not choose.
Change Region and Time Zone
On many Samsung phones the Time zone option stays greyed out and cannot be tapped. This happens because Automatic date and time is still switched on in system settings. Once that toggle is off, you can pick both Region and Time zone by hand.
Lock Secure Folder Manually
If Secure Folder stays open after you close it, the automatic lock timer or restart-only setting is probably still active. That leaves private apps and files reachable until the timer runs out or the phone reboots. A manual lock option inside the folder closes it right away, without waiting for either condition.
Power Off a Samsung Device
On newer Samsung phones, holding the power button often opens Bixby instead of the shutdown menu, so the classic press-and-hold trick stops working. If your device does not react when you hold the side key, the button has likely been reassigned and you need another way to power down. This mix-up leaves many users stuck between a frozen screen and an assistant they never asked for.
Timer Vibration On/Off
If your Samsung timer tone is too quiet or your phone sits in another room, a missed timer alert can ruin cooking, laundry, or focus sessions. The timer sound and phone vibration are controlled by two separate settings inside the Clock app, so a loud ringtone volume alone does not guarantee you feel the alert. Adding vibration gives you a physical cue on top of the tone.
Pop-up Notification Style
If pop-up notifications on your Samsung phone only flash a short summary or cut off important text, the display style is set to the wrong mode. Samsung lets you switch between a brief banner and a detailed pop-up that shows the full message content. Picking the wrong option means missing sender names, message previews, or app-specific details at a glance.
Delete Single or Multiple Contacts
Deleted contacts sometimes come back or disappear for good, depending on your Samsung software version. On newer Android releases with One UI, removed contacts sit in a trash bin for 30 days before they are gone permanently, while older Android 9 devices delete contacts right away, even if they were saved to your Samsung or Google account.
Increase Touch Sensitivity for Screen Protectors
If your Samsung phone misses taps or feels sluggish after fitting a tempered-glass screen protector, the touchscreen is likely filtering out part of your input. Thicker protective films add a layer between your finger and the sensor, which throws off the standard touch calibration. A dedicated sensitivity setting compensates for this without forcing you to switch protectors.
Turn VoLTE Calls On or Off
If calls sound muffled, take longer to connect, or switch to a spotty 3G signal mid-call, VoLTE might be turned off on your Samsung phone. Voice over LTE routes calls through your carrier's data network instead of the older 2G or 3G circuit, which affects voice clarity, connection speed and even battery drain. On dual SIM models each SIM line has its own separate VoLTE switch, so one number can sound noticeably better than the other.
Request Desktop Site in Samsung Internet
Some websites hide download buttons, settings pages or entire tools when Samsung Internet loads the mobile version instead of the full site. If a page looks stripped down or a feature just will not work, the browser is likely serving you the mobile layout by default. Forcing the desktop version brings back the complete site as it appears on a computer.
Turn Touch Interaction Sounds On or Off
If your Samsung phone plays a click or tone every time you tap certain screen elements, notification toggles, or Focus mode switches, the system's touch interaction sound is turned on. You cannot swap the tone for a different sound since it is a fixed system cue, but you can switch the whole feature on or off.
Turn Charging Sound On or Off
Every time you plug in or unplug the cable, your Samsung phone plays a short charging chime. That sound gets annoying fast if you charge overnight, top up during meetings, or use a wireless charger that triggers it repeatedly. The toggle for this sound is easy to miss because it sits inside a separate system sound menu, not the regular notification settings.
Erase Personalized Keyboard Predictions
If Samsung Keyboard keeps suggesting a typo, an old name, or a one-off phrase you never want to see again, the built-in prediction engine has stored it locally. This learned word history keeps growing the more you type and never clears itself. Wiping it does not touch your keyboard language, layout, or other typing settings.
Turn Data Usage Limit On or Off
Once your Samsung phone hits its set data limit, mobile data shuts off completely until the new billing cycle starts, even for calls or messages that need a data connection to send. Getting the billing cycle date or limit value wrong means losing mobile data days before your plan actually resets. The switch sits inside the Data usage settings and is easy to overlook once it is turned on.
Clear RAM on Samsung Phones
When too many background apps stay open, they occupy RAM and your Samsung phone starts lagging, freezing briefly, or reloading apps you just switched away from. One UI tries to manage memory automatically, but its automatic cleanup does not always catch every idle app in time. A manual memory clean-up gives you direct control over which background processes get closed right now.
