Turn Subtitles On or Off
If captions stay off during video playback or look different from app to app, you are probably dealing with two separate subtitle systems on your Samsung phone. Samsung subtitles and Google subtitles (CC) both add captions but sit in different menus and offer different styling options. Show or Hide the App Drawer Button on the Home Screen
On Samsung phones the app list normally opens with a swipe up on the home screen, and many users miss the dedicated button from older models. Turn USB Tethering On or Off
If your laptop or PC does not pick up an internet connection after you plug in your Samsung phone, USB tethering is probably still switched off. This feature routes your mobile data through the USB cable instead of Wi-Fi, which helps when public Wi-Fi is blocked, slow, or unavailable. Without the toggle enabled, the computer detects the cable but never actually goes online.
Set App Timers
If one app on your phone keeps eating more of your day than planned, Samsung's App Timer can shut it down automatically once the daily budget runs out. The app closes itself and stays locked until midnight, then resets. Apps inside Secure Folder or dual-app clones are not affected by this limit at all.
Group Albums into Folders
When your Gallery fills up with dozens of separate albums, finding a specific event takes longer every time you open the app. Samsung lets you nest related albums inside one main album, so yearly or category folders stay bundled instead of cluttering the overview. This grouping option is easy to miss because it works through drag-and-drop instead of a settings menu.
Set Date and Time Automatically
If your Samsung phone shows the wrong time after a trip or a SIM swap, the automatic clock sync has likely been switched off. Apps that rely on accurate timestamps, like calendars, banking apps, or two-factor codes, can then throw errors or reject logins. This usually traces back to a single toggle in the system settings that pulls time data from your mobile network.
Delete Photos or Videos in Gallery
Storage warnings, an ex's photos, or a blurry shot that never should have been kept - there are plenty of reasons to clear out your Gallery. You can protect specific apps from this automatic sleep behavior instead of disabling battery optimization for everything.
Change Calendar View

Restore Secure Folder Backup

Turn Samsung Free On or Off on the Home Screen
If the Samsung Free page with news and instant games keeps popping up when you swipe left on your home screen, you probably want to switch it off. Some users lose this page after a system update and want it back instead. The toggle for this panel sits away from the usual display settings, which is why it is easy to miss.
Block or Unblock a Contact
If one saved contact keeps calling or texting after you have asked them to stop, blocking is the only way to silence both channels at once. The tricky part is that a blocked contact stays visible in your contact list and cannot be hidden, which surprises many users. When you plug in a Samsung phone, the Always On Display can overlay the charge percentage and estimated time to full right on the lock screen. Some people rely on this glance-and-go info, others find it distracting or want it gone for a cleaner look. Either way, the option sits in a display setting most people never touch.
Turn Game Launcher On or Off
If your installed games sit scattered across the home screen and app drawer instead of being grouped in one place, Game Launcher is probably switched off. Turning it on also starts tracking your play time and unlocks Game Booster tools for blocking notifications while you play. Some people switch it back off when the extra overlay or usage tracking gets in the way during normal app use.
App Icon Badges: Enable or Disable per App
If your home screen keeps showing a red notification dot on apps you barely open, while a messaging app you actually check stays silent, the global App icon badges switch is not doing the job. Samsung lets you control badges for each app separately, but many people only ever touch the main toggle. Without checking the individual app settings, badges end up either everywhere or nowhere.
Delete a Calendar Event
Cancelled appointments and outdated entries stay visible in the Samsung Calendar until you remove them manually. Old events pile up in the daily view and make it harder to spot what is actually still coming up. Deleting a single entry does not affect any other appointments stored in the calendar.
Change Home Screen Wallpaper
If your home screen still shows the old background after picking a new photo, Samsung One UI likely applied the change to the lock screen instead. The Wallpaper menu treats the start screen and lock screen as separate targets, so choosing the wrong one is the most common reason nothing visibly changes. This applies to both the built-in wallpaper packs and photos from your own gallery.
Change Alarm Volume
If your alarm sounds too quiet or too loud, the fix is not in your general sound settings. On Samsung phones, alarm volume is controlled separately for each alarm inside the Clock app, not through the main volume slider. Without knowing this, many people assume the alarm volume is stuck at one level.
Share Contacts as File or Text
Retyping a phone number or address for a friend wastes time and often introduces typos. Samsung's Contacts app can export a single entry as a VCF file or as plain text so you can send it through WhatsApp, Messages or email without manual copying. Picking the wrong format can still leave the recipient with a file their app cannot read.
Add a Keyboard Language
Your Samsung keyboard only offers the system language by default, so a German-language phone types German everywhere, even in messages you want to write in English or another language. Switching between alphabets or typing foreign words forces constant autocorrect fights. The fix sits in the Samsung Keyboard settings, but the option to add extra input languages is buried several menus deep and easy to miss.
