Rename a Paired Bluetooth Device

Every time you dial a number, your Xiaomi phone pops up a menu asking which SIM card to use for the call. If you only ever tap the same option anyway, that extra confirmation step just slows down dialing. A fixed default SIM removes the prompt for good.
Wi-Fi Assistant: Select Best Networks Automatically
If your Xiaomi phone keeps switching away from a weak Wi-Fi network without asking, Wi-Fi assistant is likely doing that for you. Once every nearby network drops in signal, it can also fall back to mobile data on its own, which can use up your data plan faster than expected. This automatic switching can also cause interruptions during video calls or downloads.
Set a Daily Mobile Data Usage Limit
A monthly data cap does not catch the one day you binge-watch or download something huge, and by the time the monthly warning fires the damage is done. On Xiaomi phones you can add a separate daily threshold so heavy usage gets flagged the same day it happens. You also decide whether MIUI just warns you or cuts mobile data automatically once the limit is hit.
Turn Bluetooth On or Off
If a Bluetooth headset, speaker, or car kit will not pair with your Xiaomi phone, Bluetooth is often still switched off or was never fully enabled after a restart. The Quick Settings toggle can also drift out of sync with the actual radio state, which leaves paired devices unable to reconnect until you check the setting directly.
App Location Permission Settings
If a Xiaomi app keeps showing the location icon even when you are not actively using it, its permission is probably set to allow access all the time. Turn Data Roaming On or Off
If your Xiaomi phone connects to a foreign network, no data moves until data roaming is switched on. Once active, you get internet access abroad, but your carrier may bill extra for it. Xiaomi does not offer a simple on/off toggle here - it gives you three distinct roaming states, and picking the wrong one either blocks data or leaves roaming running when you do not want it.
Add a Printer via IP Address or Wi-Fi Direct
If your printer does not show up automatically even though your phone and printer share the same Wi-Fi network, MIUI still lets you add it manually. This usually happens with older printers, devices on a different subnet, or printers that only support Wi-Fi Direct instead of standard network discovery. In that case you need to enter the printer's IP address yourself or switch on Wi-Fi Direct printing directly from the printing menu.
Set the WiFi Hotspot Band
If your Xiaomi hotspot always connects on the slower 2.4GHz band, other devices lose out on faster 5GHz speeds. Not every phone or app picks the best signal automatically, so a laptop or smart TV might latch onto the weaker frequency even when 5GHz is available. Whether you can switch depends on the AP Band option being supported by your device.
Turn Screen Cast On or Off
If your Xiaomi phone won't mirror to a TV or monitor, the built-in Cast feature might be turned off, or your phone and screen aren't on the same Wi-Fi network. Screen Cast behaves differently from many third-party mirroring apps, since playback usually stops the moment you turn off the display. That makes it easy to mistake a disabled toggle for a broken connection.
Enable or Disable Simple View for Contact List
If your contact list on your Xiaomi phone feels cluttered with profile pictures and extra info, a simple list view can clean things up. This setting in the Contacts app controls whether photos and details show up next to each name, or whether you just get plain text entries. Switching it off makes scrolling through a large contact list faster and less distracting.
Wi-Fi Direct Setup
Streaming a video or photo to your TV or Fire TV Stick only works if both devices can see each other on the network, and Wi-Fi Direct connections often fail silently when that handshake breaks. Your Xiaomi phone needs to be on the same wireless network as the receiving device before Wi-Fi Direct can even scan for it. If the target device never shows up in the device list, this direct-connection setting is usually the first thing to check.
Disable Wi-Fi Direct
On many Xiaomi phones the Wi-Fi Direct toggle looks greyed out or simply refuses to switch off. That happens because the feature stays active as long as at least one device remains paired to it. Disconnecting every paired device is the only way to actually shut Wi-Fi Direct down.
Limit Connected Hotspot Devices
By default, your Xiaomi phone lets an unlimited number of devices join your mobile hotspot at once. That can slow down your connection and makes it hard to track who is actually using your data. Setting a maximum device count gives you back control over who connects.
Connect to Wi-Fi Using a QR Code
Typing out a long Wi-Fi password on a Xiaomi phone gets tedious, especially with mixed case letters and symbols. If the network owner has a QR code ready, you can skip the password field entirely by scanning it with the built-in Wi-Fi scanner.
Turn Location Access On or Off
If maps, weather, or camera apps suddenly stop finding your position on a Xiaomi phone, the general location toggle in MIUI settings might be switched off. Turning it off blocks GPS for every app at once, even those you already granted permission to use your location. This differs from per-app location permissions, which stay untouched but simply can't function without the master switch.
Manually Add an APN
If mobile data drops out or MMS messages will not send on your Xiaomi phone, the access point name (APN) supplied by your carrier might be missing or wrong. This entry is normally created the first time you insert a SIM card, but a factory reset, a new SIM, or a carrier update can wipe it out. Without a correct APN, the phone shows full signal but cannot actually load data.
Auto-download Updates via Mobile Data
If your Xiaomi phone keeps pulling system updates in the background while you are off Wi-Fi, mobile data usage can climb fast without warning. MIUI treats update downloads as automatic once a new version is detected, and a separate toggle decides whether mobile data counts as an allowed source for that download. Switching it off limits update downloads to Wi-Fi only, which matters if you are on a limited plan.
Select Network Manually
When you travel abroad and your phone keeps hanging on a weak carrier, automatic network selection is usually the cause. MIUI picks a network by signal priority, not by actual reception quality, so calls drop and data stalls even though a stronger carrier is available nearby. Switching to manual selection lets you pick that carrier yourself instead of waiting for the phone to reconnect.
Location Accuracy Mode Settings
If your Xiaomi phone struggles to lock onto a location or the battery drains faster than usual, the active location mode is often the reason. MIUI offers different accuracy levels that combine GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth and mobile network data in different ways, and the wrong choice leads to slow fixes indoors or unnecessary power drain outdoors.
Turn Wi-Fi Auto Reconnect On or Off
If your Xiaomi phone keeps rejoining a Wi-Fi network you would rather avoid, or the connection drops every time you walk back into range, the Connect automatically option tied to that specific network is behind it. MIUI turns this behavior on by default for every network you have ever joined, and it stays active until you switch it off for that network individually. That is also why disabling it on one network never changes the behavior of the others.
Turn Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot On or Off
If other devices cannot get online through your Xiaomi phone, the portable hotspot might simply be switched off or still using a network name and password you do not remember. This feature turns your mobile data connection into a Wi-Fi network for laptops, tablets or other phones nearby. Once it is active, the tricky part is usually finding the right toggle again, since it sits inside a settings screen most people only visit once.
Turn a SIM Card On or Off
On a dual SIM Xiaomi phone, calls or texts sometimes keep arriving on a line you no longer want to use, or you want to silence one number without pulling the physical card out. MIUI lets you deactivate a SIM slot completely, which stops all calls, messages and mobile data on that line until you switch it back on.
