Xiaomi: Set Up App Lock for Individual Apps

Anyone who picks up your Xiaomi phone can open sensitive apps like banking, messaging or gallery without extra protection beyond the screen lock. App Lock adds a second barrier for individual apps, separate from your device PIN or pattern. Without it enabled, apps stay accessible the moment the phone itself is unlocked.

App Lock: Lock or Unlock Apps auf Xiaomi

App Lock on Xiaomi phones adds a separate lock screen for individual apps. Even if someone unlocks your phone with the main PIN or pattern, protected apps still require a second confirmation.

This matters most for apps holding private data: messaging, banking, photos or notes. Without App Lock active, anyone with access to the unlocked phone can open these apps freely.

Turn on App Lock

Go to Open the SettingsTap on AppsTap on App lockTap on Turn on. You are then asked to link the feature to your account: choose Not now or Add to connect your Mi Account, which lets you recover access if you forget the lock method.

After setup, MIUI shows Select suggested apps with commonly protected apps pre-checked. Confirm with Tap on Use App lock to apply the lock to those apps immediately.

Add or remove apps

To manage the full list, Swipe upwards to browse all apps and then Enable or disable other apps individually. Toggle any app on to require the extra unlock step, or off to remove it.

If your phone supports fingerprint or face recognition, you can usually use either method to open locked apps once App Lock is active, instead of typing a pattern or password each time.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. App Lock uses its own pattern, PIN or password, set independently from your main screen lock. You choose this during setup after you Tap on Turn on.
