Xiaomi: Change the Ringtone for a Contact Group

If every group member still rings with the default tone, or one contact keeps overriding the sound you picked, the group ringtone setting inside the Contacts app is being ignored. On Xiaomi phones a ringtone assigned directly to a single contact always takes priority over any group-level tone, no matter what you set in My groups. That mix-up is the most common reason a group ringtone seems to have no effect.

Change Ringtone for a Contact Group auf Xiaomi

Xiaomi lets you set one ringtone for every member of a contact group, but individual contact settings inside MIUI always take priority when both are configured.

That is why a group tone sometimes seems ignored: if you or the caller previously picked a personal ringtone for that contact, MIUI keeps using it instead of the group sound.

To set or change a group ringtone, open Contacts appMy groupsSelect a groupRingtoneChoose a ringtone. The new tone applies to every contact in that group who does not already have a custom ringtone assigned.

If you want the group tone to apply without exception, remove the personal ringtone from each contact first. Open the contact, check the ringtone field, and reset it to default before assigning the group sound.

This setting only affects incoming calls, not notification sounds for messages from group members.

Frequently asked questions

MIUI prioritizes any ringtone assigned directly to a contact over the group setting. Remove the personal tone from the contact details to let the group ringtone apply.
