Xiaomi: Disable Navigation Bar in Specific Apps

Accidentally tapping the Back or Recents button during a full-screen game or video can pull you out of the app at the worst moment. On Xiaomi phones the on-screen navigation bar stays active by default even in apps that do not need it. MIUI lets you set this behavior per app instead of turning it off system-wide.

Disable Navigation Bar Per App auf Xiaomi

The navigation bar with Back, Home and Recents stays visible in every app by default, even when it only gets in the way. This is common in games played in landscape mode, where a stray tap near the bottom edge can trigger an unwanted Back action and throw you out of a match.

MIUI has a dedicated function that automatically disables the navigation buttons inside apps you choose, without switching to gesture navigation for the whole phone. The setting applies per app, so you keep normal navigation everywhere else and only hide the bar where it actually interferes.

Where to find the setting

Open Open the SettingsTap on Additional settingsTap on Button shortcutsTap on Automatically disable navigation buttons. From there, Choose an app from the list and set it to Ask to disable, Always disable or Never disable.

Always disable hides the bar every time you open that app. Ask to disable shows a prompt the first time you launch it, letting you decide on the spot. Never disable keeps the navigation bar visible as usual.

If you rely on quick app switching or one-handed navigation, leaving system-critical apps on Never disable avoids extra friction while gaming apps stay distraction-free.

Frequently asked questions

You can apply it to any app installed on the phone, not just games. Go to Choose an app in the same menu and add apps like video players or reading apps where the navigation bar is not needed.
