Xiaomi: Disable Wi-Fi Direct Connections

On many Xiaomi phones the Wi-Fi Direct toggle looks greyed out or simply refuses to switch off. That happens because the feature stays active as long as at least one device remains paired to it. Disconnecting every paired device is the only way to actually shut Wi-Fi Direct down.

Disable Wi-Fi Direct auf Xiaomi

Wi-Fi Direct on Xiaomi phones running MIUI does not come with a single on/off switch. The toggle stays active until every paired device is disconnected first, which confuses users who expect one tap to be enough.

Go to Open the SettingsTap on Wi-FiTap on Additional settingsTap on Wi-Fi Direct. This screen lists every device currently connected through Wi-Fi Direct.

Tap on each connected device and confirm the disconnect with Confirm with OK. Repeat this for every entry in the list. Once the last connection is removed, Wi-Fi Direct switches off automatically and stays inactive until a new device pairs with it.

If Wi-Fi Direct turns itself back on, check whether another app - a file-sharing tool or a screen-mirroring app, for example - keeps requesting a connection in the background. Closing that app usually stops MIUI from re-enabling Wi-Fi Direct.

Frequently asked questions

MIUI treats Wi-Fi Direct as active as long as any device is paired to it. You need to open Open the SettingsTap on Wi-FiTap on Additional settingsTap on Wi-Fi Direct and disconnect each listed device before the feature turns off on its own.
