Set the WiFi Hotspot Band auf Xiaomi
Xiaomi hotspots default to the 2.4GHz band because it reaches farther and works with almost every device, including older laptops and smart-home gadgets. Devices that support the faster 5GHz frequency don't always switch to it automatically, and staying on the slower band means lower throughput when you tether a laptop or stream from a tablet nearby.
On phones where MIUI exposes the AP Band option, you can choose between 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz before turning the hotspot on. Not every Xiaomi model has this control since it depends on the WiFi chipset - if the option is missing, your device only supports a 2.4GHz hotspot.
To change it, open Settings ➔ Connection & sharing ➔ Portable hotspot ➔ Set up portable hotspot ➔ Select AP Band and pick 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz.
Switching to 5GHz helps most when the connected device is close and needs higher speed, for example casting video or moving large files. Stick with 2.4GHz if you need range across multiple rooms or if an older device can't see 5GHz networks at all.
