Xiaomi: Turn On or Off USB-OTG

If your Xiaomi phone does not recognize a USB drive, game controller, or keyboard through a USB-C adapter, the OTG function is often switched off or has timed out. MIUI disables OTG automatically after 10 minutes without an active connection, so a device that worked yesterday can suddenly show nothing today.

Turn On or Off USB-OTG auf Xiaomi

USB On-The-Go lets your Xiaomi phone act as a host for external USB hardware. Connected through a USB-C adapter or cable, you can attach USB drives, card readers, keyboards, or game controllers and exchange data directly.

MIUI keeps this function in a separate menu because it draws extra power and can interfere with charging accessories. That is also why the system turns OTG off automatically after 10 minutes of inactivity, even if you enabled it manually before.

To switch OTG on or off, open SettingsAdditional settingsOTG, then toggle it on or off with the switch on that page.

If a USB drive or keyboard is not recognized right after connecting, open this menu first and check whether the toggle is still active. Reconnecting the cable after enabling OTG usually forces the phone to detect the accessory again.

Leave OTG off when you are not using external USB accessories. This avoids unnecessary background power draw and keeps the setting from silently staying active longer than needed.
