Set an App Timer to Limit Daily App Usage auf Android
Android's app timer works through the Digital Wellbeing dashboard, which tracks how long each app stays active on screen. Once you set a limit, the system pauses the app automatically the moment your allotted time runs out, similar to a screen-time cutoff on other platforms.
The countdown only tracks foreground usage, not background activity like music playback or navigation. Every timer resets automatically at midnight, so limits apply fresh each day without manual resetting.
To set a limit, open Settings ➔ Digital Wellbeing & parental controls ➔ Dashboard ➔ App timer. Pick the app you want to restrict, set the number of minutes or hours, and confirm with OK. You can set separate timers for each app, in one-minute increments up to 23 hours and 59 minutes.
When the timer runs out, the app icon greys out and the app closes or blocks further opening until the next day. If you need more time immediately, you can extend or remove the timer manually from the same Dashboard screen.
App timers work best for apps with a clear usage pattern, like social media or games. For apps you use for productivity or communication, a longer or no timer avoids unwanted interruptions.
