Remove App Icon from Home Screen auf Android
On Android, every app placed on the home screen technically gets its own shortcut icon, separate from the actual app installation. Removing that icon only clears space on the screen. The app itself, including its data, stays installed and can still be opened from the app drawer.
This distinction matters because many users worry that removing an icon deletes the app. It does not. The home screen shortcut is just a pointer to the app, and Android lets you drop or restore it without touching the software underneath.
How to remove the shortcut
To remove an app icon from the home screen, use the following steps:
Tap and hold an App ➔ Drag the App upwards ➔ Release the App on the Remove button
Once released over the Remove option, the icon disappears from that home screen position immediately. If you later want quick access again, you can add the app back from the app drawer.
If your goal is actually to free up storage or stop the app from running in the background, removing the shortcut will not help. In that case, uninstalling the app or adjusting its background permissions in the system settings is the correct approach.
