Cannot access phone as screen frozen

I cannot use my phone as the screen has frozen. Also I cannot turn the phone off or re-start.

Yes I tried that and it did not do anything - brought up the option to Power off or re start but neither option was accessible.

One question:
When you force the power off, you are usually not asked whether to restart or turn off the device. Did you press and hold the power button long enough?

Here, it doesn't matter what you see or appears on screen, just press and hold until the power really goes off (usually ~10 seconds).

Even if you can't force the device to turn off, you can only wait until the battery is empty, even if that's annoying, you have no other choice.
