texting

I purchased this phone because I heard great things about it, however since recieving it, those who have iphones I am not getting there text messages and I can not send picture text messages. I have been researching online for days and I need help. Because this phone is not a normal android so all the steps for androids online are not valid for this phone and I get lost. If i can not use like any other phone what good it is?
