Unrestricted Data Access for Apps

EMUI applies data-saving rules per app, which can delay notifications or block downloads until you open the app manually. Unrestricted data access removes that limit for individual apps.
Allow App Installs From External Sources
Trying to install an APK outside the AppGallery or Play Store often gets blocked by a security warning on Huawei phones. This happens because the permission to install apps from external sources is switched off for each app individually. Until you enable it for the specific app you used to download the file, sideloading stays blocked, even if the file itself is safe.
Set Default Browser App
If tapping a link in a message or email keeps opening Huawei Browser instead of Chrome, Firefox or Opera, the system default app was never switched. EMUI decides which browser handles outside links independently of which apps you have installed. Downloading a new browser from the Play Store alone does not change this setting.
Draw Over Other Apps Permission
When Facebook Messenger shows a chat bubble with the sender's photo while you are using another app, that overlay relies on a specific system permission. On EMUI you can grant or block this permission separately for every installed app. Without it, overlay bubbles, floating widgets or in-call popups simply stop appearing.
Force Stop an App
When an app on a Huawei phone freezes or the app switcher does not fully close it, the process keeps running in the background. This can drain battery, block notifications from other apps, or cause the screen to stay stuck. A force stop shuts the app down completely instead of just minimizing it.
Enable or Disable App Icon Badges
If your app icons keep showing a number or red dot even after you have read every message, the icon badge notification setting is still active for that app. On some Huawei phones badges stay visible for apps like Messages or Email regardless of how often you clear the notification tray. This setting controls whether unread counts appear on the icon itself, separate from the notification shade.
Reset App Preferences
When an app on your Huawei phone stops sending notifications, opens the wrong default app, or gets stuck in the background, one of its individual settings is usually the cause. This setting controls whether downloaded software updates get installed while the device sits idle, separate from the download step itself. Turning it off still lets updates download automatically, but you decide when the install happens.
Set Default Launcher App
If your Huawei phone keeps opening the old home screen even after installing a new launcher, the system is still pointing to the previous default app. This happens because EMUI only switches the active launcher when you confirm the change in the app settings, not automatically after installation. Until that setting is updated, widgets, shortcuts and the app drawer stay tied to the launcher you had before.
Enable Smart Data Saver for Individual Apps
If messaging apps stop pushing notifications or emails only load after you open them manually on your Huawei phone, Smart Data Saver is probably throttling their background data. Once the feature is turned on, every app loses background access to mobile data unless you add it to the exception list.
