Write System Settings: App Access
If a third-party app cannot adjust brightness, rotation or other system values on your Huawei phone, it usually lacks the Write system settings permission. EMUI blocks this special access by default for most apps outside a trusted set. You decide per app whether it can change system settings, and turning it off for one app does not affect the others.
Change System Navigation Type
If the on-screen buttons at the bottom of your Huawei phone feel cramped, or you keep hitting the back button by accident, the navigation style is worth changing. Enable or Disable Key Pop-ups
When you type on a Huawei phone, every letter you tap flashes briefly above the key before it appears in the message. In apps like WhatsApp or Messenger this preview can feel distracting, especially if you type fast or use a small screen. The behavior comes from a keyboard setting, not from the messaging app itself.
Add Cities to World Clock
Checking the time in another city usually means opening a separate app or working out the time difference yourself. The World clock screen on Huawei phones can display several cities side by side, but only after you add them manually. Without extra entries, the Clock app only shows your local time.
Set Default Calendar Reminder Time
Adding the same reminder to every new event in the Calendar app gets tedious fast. If you keep picking 10 minutes before or Start time of an event manually each time, a single setting can handle it for you going forward.
Block Pop-ups in the Browser App
Websites that need extra tabs, like login windows or file downloads, may fail to open if the browser's pop-up blocker is active. On Huawei phones running EMUI, the Browser app blocks pop-ups by default, which can break certain site functions. You can turn this protection on or off directly in the browser's settings.
Scheduled Power On/Off Setup
If your Huawei phone keeps missing its automatic shutdown or startup, the Scheduled power on/off feature in Accessibility features is either switched off or running on the wrong repeat interval. This setting controls exact power times independently from Do Not Disturb or any battery schedule. Picking the wrong repeat option, for example Custom instead of Every day, makes the phone skip days you actually wanted covered.
Change the Region Setting
On many Huawei phones the region field switches on its own whenever the device connects to a different mobile network. This can happen right after a trip abroad or when a SIM briefly loses signal and reconnects to a foreign carrier. The automatic change can affect app stores, weather data, and date formats without any warning.
Choose a Print Service
When you try to print a PDF form or document from your Huawei phone, nothing happens if no print service is active. EMUI ships with a default printing option, but it stays switched off until you enable it in the system settings. Without an active print service, the print button in apps like Files or a browser stays grayed out even if a printer is already on your network or paired over Bluetooth.
Set a Timer in the Clock App
If you need a countdown instead of a fixed alarm time, the Timer function in the Clock app on your Huawei phone does exactly that. It counts down from a time you set and triggers an alert the moment it reaches zero. Getting the exact second right can be fiddly if you are not used to the swipe-based time picker.
Enable or Disable JavaScript in Browser
If buttons, forms, or interactive menus stop working in the Huawei Browser, JavaScript is often switched off for that site. Pages can also feel sluggish or burn through extra data when scripts run constantly in the background. Turning the setting on or off fixes broken pages or lets you cut data use and reduce tracking on sites you trust less.
Reset All System Settings
If your Huawei phone keeps auto-connecting to a WiFi network you no longer trust, or fingerprint and face unlock refuse to work properly, a broken settings profile is often the cause. Resetting all settings clears these configurations without touching your photos, apps, or documents. It is easy to confuse this with a full factory reset, which does erase your data.
Disable Google Assistant from the Home Button
On many Huawei phones, long-pressing the virtual home button launches Google Assistant even when you never meant to open it. This shortcut is controlled through the Assist app setting, not through the Google app itself. If the overlay keeps popping up during normal navigation, you can switch the shortcut off completely.
Quick Settings: Manage Toggles
If NFC, mobile data or the flashlight toggle keep disappearing from your Quick Settings, the panel setup needs adjusting rather than the swipe gesture. Huawei phones only show a limited set of switches by default, so frequently used ones can end up missing. This slows down access to functions you'd normally toggle in one move.
Check for Software Updates
If your Huawei phone hasn't shown a notification about a new version, you could still be missing a fix or feature that already rolled out. Update alerts on EMUI often depend on background checks that get delayed by network conditions or staged rollouts. Checking the update status yourself confirms whether a new version is actually available for your device.
Allow HiSuite to Use HDB
If your Huawei phone refuses to sync files, contacts or backups with HiSuite on your PC, the HDB permission is usually the reason. HDB works like USB debugging and grants HiSuite deeper access to your device, so it stays disabled by default for security reasons. Without it enabled, HiSuite connects but transfers fail or stall.
Enable Developer Options
If USB debugging or other system tools stay grayed out on your Huawei phone, the hidden Developer options menu is probably still locked. This menu sits behind a hidden trigger on the About phone screen and only appears after a specific tap sequence. Without it unlocked, tasks like ADB access or app performance testing are not possible.
Enable Google Assistant with the Power Button
Holding down the power button on your Huawei phone should launch Google Assistant instantly, but nothing happens because the shortcut sits inside the accessibility tools and is usually switched off. Without it enabled, you always have to swipe up from the home screen or say the wake word to reach the assistant. This toggle is easy to miss since it is buried several menus deep in EMUI.
Enable Complex Calculator Functions
The default calculator on most Android phones only handles basic arithmetic, so many users search the Play Store for a scientific calculator app just to get functions like sine, cosine, or logarithms. On Huawei phones running EMUI, that extra download is unnecessary, but switching to the extended mode is not obvious if you only ever use the calculator in portrait orientation. The trigger sits in how you hold the phone, not in a hidden menu.
Set Time Zone Manually
If your Huawei phone shows the wrong hour after switching networks or SIM cards, the automatic time zone detection is picking up incorrect network data. This mostly happens on Wi-Fi-only devices, in areas with weak signal, or with local SIMs that report the wrong region. As long as automatic detection stays active, any manual change gets reset right away.
Change the Browser Homepage
If your Huawei browser keeps opening to a page full of shortcuts you never asked for, or lands on a blank tab instead of the site you actually want, the homepage option is still set to its default value. Switching it to a custom page lets you decide exactly which website loads every time you open the browser.
Disable Developer Options
If Developer options stay active on your Huawei phone, background tools like USB debugging or forced GPU rendering keep running long after you finished testing. That leaves debugging access open to any app or cable connection, and some of those settings quietly affect animation speed and battery behavior. The toggle for this sits inside a menu that only shows up once you have unlocked it yourself.
Set Time Manually
If your Huawei phone keeps snapping back to network time, the 'Set automatically' toggle under Date & time is overwriting every manual change you make. That happens because EMUI pulls the clock from the mobile network or a Wi-Fi time server in the background. To keep a custom time, that sync has to be turned off first.
