Block a Phone Number from Call History
If the same unknown caller keeps turning up in your call log, that's rarely a coincidence. Many of these numbers belong to fake contests, surveys or robocall campaigns that dial repeatedly. Huawei lets you stop this directly from the call log entry, no separate blocklist app needed.
Enable Desktop Site in Browser
Websites open in a scaled-down mobile layout on your Huawei phone, and some buttons or menus stay hidden because of that. Online banking portals, admin panels or older shop systems often only show their full feature set once the desktop layout loads. The browser normally switches back to mobile view on its own after you close the tab or leave the page.
Turn Mobile Data On or Off
If apps stop loading data outside Wi-Fi range or your phone shows no internet connection away from home, mobile data is likely switched off or an app is blocking background data. Huawei phones separate the mobile data toggle from Wi-Fi, so turning it off cuts cellular internet access completely once you leave a Wi-Fi network. A missing or wrong APN can cause the same symptom even when mobile data is already turned on.
Enable App Lock
If anyone can open your banking, messaging, or gallery app just by unlocking your phone, that app has no protection of its own. Huawei phones let you add a separate passcode or fingerprint check to specific apps, but the option is easy to miss because it sits inside the general security settings rather than inside each app.
Enable or Disable Advanced Visual Effects
Menus that fade in and out, icons that bounce, apps that animate on launch - these transition effects look nice but can make a Huawei phone feel sluggish, especially on older models. If your device lags while switching between screens or opening apps, the Advanced visual effects setting is often the reason.
Change the AP Band for Mobile Hotspot
Your Huawei phone hands out its mobile hotspot on 2.4 GHz by default, and that works with almost any WLAN device but slows things down once several gadgets share the same channel. Laptops, tablets or streaming sticks that support 5 GHz stay stuck on the slower band until you switch it manually. This shows up as sluggish transfers or buffering whenever more than one device connects to your hotspot at the same time.
Enable or Disable Object Tracking in Camera
When you tap a moving subject on the viewfinder and the focus box does not follow it, object tracking is likely switched off. With this option active, the camera keeps focus locked on the tapped subject even while you move your Huawei device or the subject shifts position.
Contact Name Order: First Name or Last Name First
If your contact list sorts by last name when you expect first name first, calls and messages get harder to scan at a glance. Huawei phones control this through one shared display setting, not something you fix contact by contact.
Add or Remove Browser Bookmarks
Losing track of frequently visited pages in the Huawei Browser app is a common annoyance once bookmarks are missing or scattered without order. Without a saved shortcut, you end up retyping URLs or scrolling through browsing history every time you need a page again. The save option sits in a spot many people overlook, and removing old bookmarks later works differently than adding them.
Set Screen Resolution Manually
If photos, videos, or text look softer than they should on your Huawei phone, Smart resolution is likely lowering the display output to save power. This automatic setting is on by default and can leave a high-resolution panel running below its real sharpness. You can override it and pick a fixed resolution yourself instead of letting the system decide.
Ringtone Volume Settings
If your Huawei phone rings too loud or too quiet compared to media playback, the ringtone volume runs on its own slider. This also affects notification sounds for incoming SMS or WhatsApp messages, so a wrong setting can mean missed calls or overly loud alerts.
Add a New Browser Tab

Set Default Apps
If your Huawei phone keeps asking which app to use every time you tap a link or open a song file, no default app is assigned for that action yet. EMUI shows this picker whenever several apps can handle the same task and none of them has been set as the standard. Pair Messages for Web with a PC
When a text comes in while you are working on your laptop, reaching for the Huawei phone every time gets old fast. Messages for web only works once the phone and the browser tab have been linked through a QR code scan, and that pairing session can drop if the phone loses network or the browser tab closes. If the scanner window on the computer stays blank or the code never gets recognized, the two devices are usually not on the same Wi-Fi network or the phone camera has not been given permission.
Remove an Assigned Number from Speed Dial
When every speed dial slot on your Huawei phone is already taken, adding a new contact means one of the existing entries has to go first. Many users only find the option to change or delete a slot after the assigned number, not the contact itself, gets edited.
Set Screen Timeout
If your Huawei display locks itself just seconds after you stop tapping it, or stays lit far too long and drains the battery, the Sleep setting is probably not matched to how you use the phone. This value decides when the screen goes into standby, anywhere from 15 seconds to 10 minutes of inactivity. If a password, PIN, or fingerprint is active as the unlock method, every standby also means unlocking again for the next tap.
Pin the Keyboard to One Side
Typing one-handed on a large Huawei phone usually means stretching your thumb across the full keyboard width, which is slow and often triggers typos. The Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard built into EMUI has no dedicated one-handed switch, so the keyboard stays centered and full-width by default. Resizing it manually is the only way to shift it to one side.
Change Default Search Engine
If every search on your Huawei phone routes through Google, you might want to switch to Bing or Qwant instead. The Browser app ships with Google as the default provider, and there is no shortcut for this on the home screen or in the quick settings. Many users assume the engine is locked and give up before finding the actual option.
Delete Facial Data
If Face Recognition keeps unlocking your Huawei phone with an old look or you simply want to switch face unlock off, deleting the stored facial data solves it in one step. This also removes any alternate appearance you registered alongside your main face profile. The setting is separate from your PIN or fingerprint, so those stay untouched.
Adjust Colour Mode & Temperature
If your Huawei display looks too cold and bluish, or colours seem flat and washed out, the colour mode and temperature are likely stuck on a default that does not suit you. Huawei lets you switch between a neutral 'Normal' look and a punchier 'Vivid' mode, and you can fine-tune the warmth of the screen yourself instead of relying on the factory setting.
Reset Network Settings
If WLAN keeps dropping, mobile data refuses to reconnect after switching networks, or Bluetooth pairings act up for no clear reason, a stuck network configuration is usually behind it. Resetting network settings wipes WLAN profiles, mobile data setups and Bluetooth pairings so the phone rebuilds them from scratch. On Dual SIM phones you also get to pick which SIM card the reset applies to.
Enable or Disable Smart Lock
If your Huawei phone keeps locking every time you pick it up at home or on a walk, Smart Lock (also called Smart Unlock) might be turned off or set up wrong. The feature relies on signals like On-body detection, Trusted places or Trusted devices to decide when the screen can skip the lock screen. When one of those signals is misconfigured, your phone either stays unlocked too long or locks itself constantly for no reason.
