Huawei: Launch Google Assistant with the Power Button

Holding down the power button on your Huawei phone should launch Google Assistant instantly, but nothing happens because the shortcut sits inside the accessibility tools and is usually switched off. Without it enabled, you always have to swipe up from the home screen or say the wake word to reach the assistant. This toggle is easy to miss since it is buried several menus deep in EMUI.

Enable Google Assistant with the Power Button auf Huawei

On Huawei phones running EMUI, the shortcut that starts Google Assistant from the power button is not turned on by default. The toggle lives inside the accessibility tools, which is why most people never find it.

To enable it, go to Open the settingsTap on Accessibility featuresTap on Motion controlTap on Google AssistantActivate or deactivate Wake with Power button. Once active, a one-second press on the power key opens Google Assistant instantly, without swiping up or waiting for the wake word to register.

This shortcut helps when your hands are busy or when voice activation fails because of background noise. Turning the toggle off again restores the normal power button behavior, so the button only locks or wakes the screen.

If Google Assistant still does not open after enabling the toggle, check that the assistant is set as your default voice assistant in the system settings. A missing default assignment blocks the power button shortcut even when the accessibility setting shows it as active.

Frequently asked questions

Check that Google Assistant is set as the default assistant app on your phone; if another app holds that role, the power button shortcut stays inactive even though Wake with Power button shows as enabled.
