Huawei: Turn Dark Mode On or Off

Bright white screens can feel harsh at night or in dim rooms, and many Huawei users want a darker interface instead. Dark mode is meant to reduce that glare, ease eye strain, and cut down on battery use, but it is not always obvious where the toggle sits or why it seems to have no effect in some apps. If your screen still looks light after a system update or a reset, the setting has likely been switched back to its default.

Enable or Disable Dark Mode auf Huawei

Dark mode replaces bright white backgrounds with a dark theme across the home screen, settings menu, and most system apps. It reduces the amount of light your display emits, which can make the screen easier on the eyes in low-light environments and lower power draw on screens with individually lit pixels.

On EMUI, the setting lives in the display options. Go to Open the settingsTap on Display & brightnessActivate or deactivate Dark mode. Toggling it here switches the appearance immediately across supported apps.

If you need faster access, the same toggle is usually available from the quick settings panel, so you do not have to go through the full settings menu every time you want to switch between light and dark.

Not every app follows dark mode automatically. Apps with their own theme controls may need a separate setting inside that app, and some third-party apps ignore system-wide dark mode entirely. If your battery life does not noticeably improve after enabling dark mode, keep in mind the effect depends on your display type and how bright you normally run your screen.

Frequently asked questions

Some apps use their own theme settings instead of following the system-wide toggle under Display & brightness. Check that app's own settings menu for a separate light or dark option.
