Huawei: Change the Lock Screen Wallpaper

Picking a new photo for your Huawei phone does not automatically change what shows on the lock screen. EMUI treats the home screen and the lock screen as two separate wallpaper slots, so after choosing an image you still get asked where it should actually be applied. Pick the wrong option in that prompt and the old lock screen image stays exactly as it was.

Change Lock Screen Wallpaper auf Huawei

On Huawei phones, the home screen and the lock screen do not automatically share the same wallpaper. EMUI stores them as two separate settings, which is why choosing a photo does not update your lock screen unless you confirm it in a follow-up prompt.

This prompt appears every time you save a new wallpaper. If you tap the wrong target there, the image only changes on the home screen and the lock screen keeps showing the previous photo.

To set it correctly, open Open the SettingsTap on Home screen & wallpaperTap on Wallpaper. Browse the built-in collection or your gallery and select the image you want.

After tapping Choose a wallpaper, confirm with Tap on Save. EMUI then shows a selection screen asking where the image should be applied. Tap Choose Lock screen if you only want it on the lock screen, or pick the combined option if it is offered, to update both screens at once.

If the lock screen still looks unchanged afterward, reopen the same menu and repeat the save step, since a missed tap on the target screen is the most common reason the wallpaper does not stick.

Frequently asked questions

You likely selected the image and tapped Tap on Save, but chose the home screen instead of Choose Lock screen in the follow-up prompt. Repeat the steps in Open the SettingsTap on Home screen & wallpaperTap on Wallpaper and pick the lock screen option this time.
