Select to Speak reads out screen elements after you tap them, using an EMUI accessibility service that converts on-screen text and image labels into speech. It runs separately from the general text-to-speech engine, so turning it on does not change keyboard sounds or notification voices.
Once active, a small icon appears in the navigation area. Tapping it switches the phone into a mode where the next element you touch gets read aloud instead of triggering its normal action, which is why apps can suddenly stop responding to regular taps.
To turn Select to Speak on or off, open Settings ➔ Accessibility features ➔ Accessibility ➔ Select to Speak, then use the toggle labeled Activate or deactivate Select to Speak and confirm with OK.
If you need continuous narration instead of tap-triggered playback, a full screen reader fits better, since Select to Speak only reads the element you point at. Leaving it on by accident can make the phone feel unresponsive to normal taps, so switching it off after testing avoids that confusion.
