On dual-SIM Huawei phones, a VoLTE call runs over the same SIM that normally carries your mobile data. Without a way to hand data traffic to the second SIM, apps in the background can lose connection for the entire call.

The Switch data connection during calls option in EMUI solves this by moving mobile data to the other SIM automatically as soon as a VoLTE call starts. Once the call ends, data returns to the original SIM without any manual action.

You find the toggle under Open the settings ➔ Tap on Mobile network ➔ Tap on SIM management ➔ Activate or deactivate Switch data connection during calls.

Turn it on if you rely on background downloads, messaging apps, or navigation while on a call. Leave it off if only one SIM has an active data plan, since switching to a SIM without data will not help and can cause confusion about which SIM is actually online.

The option only affects behavior during active VoLTE calls. It has no effect on calls made over a regular voice network or on data usage outside of calls.
