Huawei: Turn Wi-Fi+ On or Off

If your Huawei phone keeps jumping onto mobile data even though you are sitting right next to your router, Wi-Fi+ is probably the reason. The feature watches your current Wi-Fi signal and switches connections on its own once it judges the network too weak. That can mean surprise mobile data usage or a phone that never stays on the Wi-Fi network you actually want.

Enable or Disable Wi-Fi+ auf Huawei

Wi-Fi+ is a background function in EMUI that keeps checking the strength of your current Wi-Fi connection. As soon as the signal drops too low, the phone looks for a stronger Wi-Fi network nearby and switches to it without asking.

If no other Wi-Fi network offers a better signal and mobile data is turned on, the phone falls back to mobile data instead of staying on a weak Wi-Fi connection. This keeps you online, but it can also trigger data usage you did not expect, especially on a plan with a small data cap.

Wi-Fi+ makes sense on a phone that moves between several access points, for example at home and in the office. It causes problems if you want to stay connected to one specific weak network on purpose, or if you rely on Wi-Fi calling and do not want the phone to jump to mobile data.

Turn Wi-Fi+ on or off

  1. Open the settings
  2. Tap on Wi-Fi
  3. Open the menu
  4. Tap on Wi-Fi+
  5. Activate or deactivate Wi-Fi+

Turn Wi-Fi+ off if you notice unexpected mobile data usage or if your phone keeps leaving a Wi-Fi network you want to stay on. Turn it back on if you regularly move between multiple Wi-Fi networks and want the strongest one selected automatically.
