Search Within a Conversation
Scrolling through a long chat to find one specific message wastes time, especially when the conversation stretches back months. Huawei's Messages app includes a built-in search that scans a single conversation for a keyword or phrase and highlights every match in yellow. You can then jump between hits with dedicated back and forward buttons instead of scrolling manually.
Enable or Disable Dark Mode
Bright white screens can feel harsh at night or in dim rooms, and many Huawei users want a darker interface instead. Dark mode is meant to reduce that glare, ease eye strain, and cut down on battery use, but it is not always obvious where the toggle sits or why it seems to have no effect in some apps. If your screen still looks light after a system update or a reset, the setting has likely been switched back to its default.
Enable or Disable Ultra Power Saving Mode
When your Huawei phone switches into a stripped-down home screen with only a handful of apps, Ultra Power Saving mode is likely active. This function shuts down background processes and blocks most apps to stretch the remaining battery as far as possible. Add Emergency Information
If paramedics or first responders need your medical details during an emergency, they usually cannot unlock your Huawei phone to check them. Emergency information stored in Security settings solves this by staying visible on the lock screen without a passcode. Without it set up, rescue teams have no quick way to see your name, address or medical conditions.
Vibrate in Silent Mode Toggle
When your Huawei phone is set to silent, it might still buzz loudly on your desk during a meeting, or stay completely quiet even though you expect a vibration alert for calls. This behavior depends on a single Vibrate in silent mode option that many people never notice inside the sound settings. Getting it wrong means either unwanted buzzing at the wrong moment or missed calls you never felt.
Enable or Disable Ultra Snapshot
If double-pressing the volume-down button on a locked Huawei phone does nothing, Ultra snapshot is probably switched off. This shortcut is meant to fire the camera or grab a photo straight from standby, but it only works when the feature is turned on in the camera app.
Lockdown Option Toggle
When you press and hold the power button on your Huawei phone, only Restart and Power off show up, even though you want a quick way to lock the device without a full shutdown. This missing Lockdown option is controlled by a hidden toggle inside the biometric security settings, not by the power menu itself.
Delete Call History
If missed calls or dialed numbers keep piling up in your Huawei call log, you can clear single entries or wipe the entire list at once. Deleting the history removes calls, messages logs, and missed call records permanently, with no way to restore them afterward. This makes it worth checking which entries you actually want to keep before confirming.
Close Browser Tabs

Tabs pile up quietly in the background during long browsing sessions without you noticing. Closing them one by one or clearing the whole list at once frees up memory and speeds browsing back up.
Turn Vibration on Navigation Keys On or Off
Every tap on the navigation keys triggers a short buzz by default on Huawei phones. If that haptic feedback feels distracting or drains extra battery for you, it comes from a single touch-vibration setting that can be switched on or off at any time.
Startup Sound: Enable or Disable
If your Huawei phone chimes every time it boots up, that sound comes from a hidden toggle in the sound settings, not a system alert. It can get in the way during early meetings or quiet mornings, and after a factory reset it sometimes switches back on without you noticing. Enable or Disable VoLTE Calls

If two Huawei phones won't share files by touching them together, Huawei Beam might be switched off or NFC isn't active on one of the devices. Beam uses NFC only to detect the other phone, then automatically switches on Bluetooth or WLAN to move the actual data. Without NFC enabled first, the Beam toggle often stays inactive or hidden.
Add a Bookmark to the Home Screen
Digging through a long list of saved bookmarks every time you want to check a specific website gets tedious fast. On Huawei phones, the browser keeps bookmarks buried inside its own menu instead of putting them within reach on the home screen. If you visit the same page daily, that extra detour through the app adds up.
Copy an SMS Message
Need to save the exact wording of a Huawei text message without retyping it, or drop part of a conversation into an email or note? Long-pressing a message in the Messages app brings up several options, and it is not always obvious which one copies the text without deleting or forwarding it. Picking the wrong option can remove the message from the thread or forward it instead of copying it to your clipboard.
Change Camera Mode
If your Huawei camera opens straight into Photo mode and Panorama, Night or Portrait seem to be missing, they are usually just tucked away behind a swipe gesture or the More menu. Which modes actually show up depends on your exact model, so a mode you expect might not be there at all. Once you know where to look, switching between Photo, Video and the extra shooting modes only takes a few taps.
Battery Optimization Settings
If a Huawei phone drains its battery fast or apps get killed in the background without warning, EMUI's battery management is usually behind it. The battery optimization list decides whether an app can keep running, finish scheduled tasks, or push notifications while you are not actively using it. Get the setting wrong and you either lose messages or watch the battery empty by the afternoon.
USB Tethering: Enable or Disable
If your laptop shows no internet connection after you plug in your Huawei phone via USB, USB tethering is probably still switched off. Windows or macOS only picks up the shared connection once the toggle is active on the phone. Without it, the cable link stays a simple charging connection.
Call Forwarding Between SIM Cards
If one of your two SIM cards is switched off, out of coverage, or physically removed, callers trying that number just hit a busy tone or voicemail instead of reaching you on the other line. On dual-SIM Huawei phones, this happens because the two SIMs operate independently unless call forwarding between them is switched on. That's a problem if you rely on both numbers while traveling or when one card regularly drops signal.
Set Location Access for Apps
If an app keeps showing local ads, weather for the wrong city, or asks for your position every time you open it, its location permission is probably set too loose. EMUI lets you fine-tune this per app instead of using one global switch. Picking the right option also affects battery drain and how much data an app collects in the background.
Enable or Disable Twin Apps
Running two accounts for the same messenger, like Facebook or WhatsApp, normally means logging out and back in every time you switch chats. Twin Apps creates a second, independent copy of a supported app on your home screen, but the feature stays off by default and only works for a limited list of apps. If the copy never shows up in your app drawer, it usually hasn't been switched on yet, not that your phone lacks the option.
Import Contacts
If your contacts are scattered across a VCF file, an old SIM card or a file you got over Bluetooth, your Huawei phone will not merge them into one list on its own. You have to tell the Contacts app which source to read and where the entries should end up, on the device itself or in your Google account. Skip that step and the numbers simply stay locked in the file you received.
Unmount Memory Card Safely
Pulling the memory card out of your Huawei phone while it is still active can corrupt photos, videos or app data stored on it. This happens because the system may still be writing to the card in the background, even if no app is visibly open. Ejecting it properly first closes every open connection before you remove the card.
