OnePlus: Allow Messages Through Do Not Disturb

If Do Not Disturb is active on your OnePlus, incoming texts and messaging app pings often vanish into the notification shade instead of alerting you. That is a problem when a contact sends something urgent while you are asleep or in a meeting. The messaging exception setting controls which senders are still allowed to break through.

Allow Messages Through Do Not Disturb auf OnePlus

Do Not Disturb on OnePlus silences notifications by default, including SMS, MMS and messaging apps such as WhatsApp. This is separate from the call exception setting, which only covers phone calls. If you need certain senders to get through while the rest stays muted, you have to configure the messaging exception on its own.

The relevant option sits inside the sound settings. Open Open the SettingsTap on Sounds & vibrationTap on Do Not DisturbTap on SMS, MMS, and messaging appsTap on Allow messages.

From there you choose Choose From anyone, From contacts only, From starred contacts only or Don't allow any messages. Picking From contacts only lets anyone saved in your address book through, while From starred contacts only limits alerts to the people you have marked as favourites. Don't allow any messages keeps Do Not Disturb fully silent for texts and messaging apps.

Messages from allowed senders still notify you normally, everyone else gets muted and lands quietly in the notification shade. If you also need phone calls to break through, that requires a separate exception in the same Do Not Disturb menu.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The SMS, MMS, and messaging apps exception applies to standard texts and to messaging apps that post notifications through the system, so WhatsApp and Telegram messages follow the same allowed-senders rule.
