OnePlus: Archive Conversations in the Messages App

If your OnePlus inbox keeps filling up with chats you want to keep but don't need to see every day, archiving is the cleaner alternative to deleting. Archived conversations disappear from the main list but stay stored with every message and attachment intact. You can bring any of them back the moment you need the history again.

Archive Conversations in Messages auf OnePlus

The Messages app on OnePlus phones sorts every conversation into one continuous list, ranked by the latest activity. Once that list fills up with texts you want to keep but do not check daily, the inbox becomes hard to scan for anything current.

Archiving moves a conversation out of the main view without deleting it. All messages, media, and attachments stay stored exactly as they were, so nothing is lost.

To archive a chat, open Open the Messages appTap and hold a conversationTap on Archive. The conversation leaves the default inbox immediately but remains searchable and can be reopened whenever needed.

This differs from deleting, which permanently removes the conversation and its content. If you want a chat gone for good, deleting is the right move; if you only want it out of daily view, archiving is safer.

One side effect worth knowing: archived conversations still receive new messages. Depending on your notification settings, a new message can unarchive the chat automatically or simply notify you while it stays hidden. Check your archived folder occasionally if you rely on message history for reference.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Archiving only removes a conversation from the main list. If a contact sends a new message, it still arrives and may move the chat back into your default inbox depending on your notification settings.
