OnePlus: Turn Reading Mode On or Off

If your OnePlus screen still feels harsh on the eyes at night, or photos and videos look washed out during the day, Reading mode is probably set the wrong way for how you use the phone. This feature swaps cool blue tones for warmer colors to ease eye strain, but picking the wrong effect can leave images looking flat or overly warm. Switching between Chromatic effect and Mono effect changes how much color stays visible while reading.

Enable or Disable Reading Mode auf OnePlus

OnePlus phones include Reading mode to cut blue light and cooler tones, replacing them with warmer colors that reduce eye strain during long reading sessions or nighttime use. The system applies this as a display filter on top of whatever theme or wallpaper you use, so once enabled it affects the whole screen.

To adjust it, go to Open the SettingsTap on DisplayTap on Reading modeEnable or disable Reading modeChoose Chromatic effect or Mono effect. Chromatic effect keeps some color visible while warming the tones, which works for browsing photos or watching video without losing all color information. Mono effect strips out most color, closer to an e-reader look, and suits long text-heavy sessions.

Reading mode is not the same as Dark mode or Night Light, since it changes color temperature rather than brightness or contrast. If your real problem is screen brightness at night rather than color, adjusting brightness or a dimmer schedule solves that faster. Photos, videos, and any color-sensitive work will look inaccurate while Reading mode is active, especially with Mono effect, so turn it off before editing images or watching content where color matters.

Frequently asked questions

Check whether Night Light or another color filter under Tap on Display is still active, since Reading mode is not the only setting that shifts screen colors.
