OnePlus: Save Location Data in Photos and Videos

If your photos and videos do not show where they were taken in the gallery app, the camera is not tagging them with location data. This can happen after a system update or a fresh camera app install, when location tagging quietly resets to off. Turning geotagging back on lets you see the exact spot of every shot later, which is useful for travel photos or documenting a job site.

Enable or Disable Location Data in Photos and Videos auf OnePlus

OnePlus phones can attach GPS coordinates to every photo and video you capture, storing the data directly inside the file. Gallery apps and photo tools then read this metadata to show a map pin or location name under the shot.

This tagging depends on a dedicated toggle inside the Camera app, not on your general location permissions in the system settings. If the toggle is off, the camera still works normally, but no coordinates get written into the file, even if location services are otherwise active on the phone.

To change this, open the Camera appOpen the SettingsEnable or disable Store location data. Switching it on starts tagging new photos and videos immediately; existing files already saved without location data will not be updated retroactively.

Turn this off again if you plan to share images publicly and do not want the exact capture location included in the file. Many social platforms strip this metadata automatically, but messaging apps and cloud backups often keep it intact.

Frequently asked questions

The toggle only affects new captures. Photos and videos saved before you enabled Store location data in the Camera settings keep no location metadata, and there is no built-in way to add it afterward.
