OnePlus: Enable Emojis in the Symbols Keyboard

When you switch to the symbols keyboard on your OnePlus, recently used emojis do not show up above the number row. This forces you to jump back to the emoji picker instead of tapping a quick suggestion. A single Gboard setting controls whether that emoji strip appears at all.

Enable Emojis in the Symbols Keyboard auf OnePlus

The symbols keyboard on OnePlus phones can show a row of recently used emojis right above the number line. This suggestion strip is controlled by a single Gboard preference, not by a general Android setting.

If the option is turned off, switching to the symbols keyboard only shows numbers and punctuation. You then have to open the separate emoji picker every time, even for emojis you use often.

To change this, open Open the SettingsTap on SystemTap on Languages & inputTap on Virtual keyboardTap on GboardTap on PreferencesEnable or disable Show emojis in symbols keyboard.

Turning this on adds the emoji row above the numbers whenever you switch to symbols. Turning it off keeps the symbols keyboard limited to numbers and punctuation, which can feel faster if you rarely use emojis from that view.

This setting only affects Gboard. If you use a different keyboard app, look for a similar suggestion option inside that app instead.

The change applies immediately after you toggle it, so you can switch back to any text field and check the symbols keyboard right away.

This happens when Show emojis in symbols keyboard is turned off in Gboard. Enable it under Tap on GboardTap on Preferences to bring back the emoji suggestion strip above the numbers.
