OnePlus: Add a Trusted Device to Smart Lock

If your OnePlus phone keeps locking itself even though a paired gadget is right next to it, Smart Lock's trusted device list might not include that accessory yet. Trusted devices work independently from trusted locations and rely on an active Bluetooth connection to keep the screen unlocked. Without pairing the accessory first, the option in Smart Lock stays unavailable.

Add Trusted Devices to Smart Lock auf OnePlus

Smart Lock on OnePlus phones offers two ways to skip the lock screen automatically: trusted locations and trusted devices. A trusted device keeps the phone unlocked as long as a paired Bluetooth accessory, such as a smartwatch or car system, stays connected. Unlike trusted locations, this option ignores GPS accuracy and reacts purely to the Bluetooth link.

Before you can add a trusted device, pair it with your OnePlus phone via Bluetooth first. Smart Lock only lists devices already known to the system, so an unpaired accessory never shows up in the selection screen.

To add one, open SettingsSecurity & lock screenSmart Lock. Confirm your current pattern, PIN or password, then tap Trusted devicesAdd trusted device and follow the on-screen instructions to pick the paired accessory.

The phone stays unlocked the moment the Bluetooth connection is active, even if the accessory is not in your hands. Remove devices you no longer use from the trusted list to avoid leaving the phone unprotected. If you mainly want automatic unlocking at home or at your desk, a trusted location is usually the safer option since it depends on your position instead of proximity to a device.

Frequently asked questions

Smart Lock checks the Bluetooth connection continuously. Once the paired watch or accessory disconnects, the phone falls back to normal locking behavior within a short delay.
