Set Camera Timer for Photos and Videos
Group photos rarely work when someone has to hold the phone and jump into frame at the same time. Oppo's Camera app hides a self-timer that delays the shutter for a few seconds, but the option sits inside a menu instead of the main viewfinder. Without it, group shots often end up blurry or missing a face.
Change Device Name
Your Oppo phone shows up as a generic model number like Reno 2 in Bluetooth lists, Wi-Fi Direct transfers, and shared network folders. That makes it hard to tell your device apart from other Oppo phones nearby, especially in a household or office with several units. Renaming it fixes the confusion in every app and connection that reads this system label.
Add Emergency Information
If you collapse or end up in an accident, paramedics often can't unlock your phone to check your blood type, allergies, or medications. Oppo lets you store that medical profile so it shows up during an SOS call, no passcode needed. Without filling it in, first responders only see your name and photo, not the details that actually matter in an emergency.
Change What the Volume Buttons Control
On most Oppo phones the volume rocker only adjusts media volume, so lowering a call ringtone or notification sound needs a separate step. This becomes confusing when Focus mode or Do Not Disturb still lets a loud ringtone through, because the buttons were never linked to ringer volume. Switching the button function to ringtone volume closes that gap.
Send an SMS Text Message
If your Oppo phone defaults to a chat app and you can't find a plain SMS option, the native Messages app is often overlooked once internet messengers take over daily chats. Turning off interest-based ads alone does not remove that link - the ID itself needs a reset.
Turn Screenshot Gestures On or Off
If a screenshot pops up every time you swipe down with three fingers, or a partial capture opens whenever you touch and hold with three fingers, the screenshot gesture settings on your Oppo phone are active. These gestures work independently from the button combination and are enabled by default in ColorOS. Random captures while gaming or scrolling usually point to one of these gestures firing by accident.
Hide Photos and Videos in the Gallery
If a photo or video keeps showing up in your gallery even though you want it out of sight, ColorOS does not let you hide entire albums. Instead, single photos and videos get marked as private and disappear from normal browsing. Getting them back means digging into a separate area that is protected by your lock screen password, fingerprint, or face recognition.
View Messages Stored on SIM Card
Old text messages that arrived before you switched phones often sit only on the SIM card, not in the main inbox of the messaging app. On Coloros this SIM storage is hidden by default, so those messages look like they vanished. A separate settings menu on Oppo phones brings them back into view.
Set Up Fingerprint Unlock
If your Oppo phone still asks for PIN, pattern or password every time you wake the screen, the fingerprint sensor probably is not set up yet. Fingerprint unlock only works once a backup method like PIN or pattern is already active, since ColorOS needs that fallback to register your print. The same fingerprint also works as a shortcut to reset a forgotten lock screen password.
Change Security Question for Privacy Password
If you cannot remember the answer to your privacy password security question, you lose the only way to reset a forgotten privacy password on your Oppo phone. ColorOS ties the entire recovery process to that single question and answer, so a weak or forgotten one leaves protected apps and files out of reach. Swapping in a question you will actually remember closes that gap before it becomes a problem.
Add App Exceptions to Do Not Disturb
If Do Not Disturb mode silences a messaging or work app you actually need to hear from, that is expected behavior on Oppo phones, not a bug. Coloros mutes every app by default once Do Not Disturb turns on, and only apps added to the allowed list keep making sound and showing alerts. Without that exception, calls, chats and reminders from that app stay silent until you turn the mode off.
App Animation Speed
If apps on your Oppo phone take a moment too long to open or the closing animation feels sluggish, the app animation speed is probably set slower than you like. This Coloros setting controls how quickly the transition plays when you launch or close an app, separate from actual app loading time.
Turn Screencast On or Off
If your Oppo screen does not show up on the Smart TV or another display, Screencast is often switched off or the target device is missing from the list of available receivers. Screencast mirrors your phone screen over the network, but it only works once the feature is enabled on the Oppo and the other device is discoverable. Without that active connection, nothing gets transmitted even if the TV is on and ready.
Add Trusted Places to Smart Lock
If your Oppo phone keeps asking for a PIN or pattern even at home or in the office, Smart Lock's Trusted Places feature is probably not configured yet. Without a saved location, the phone falls back to your regular screen lock everywhere, including places you visit every day. Trusted Places keeps the device unlocked within roughly 50 meters of a spot you pick, as long as location services stay on.
Set an Alarm with Custom Repeat and Ringtone
On Oppo phones several alarms exist side by side, each with its own repeat pattern, snooze length, vibration and ringtone. When you set up a new alarm or edit an existing one, it is easy to miss where these individual options actually live and end up with the wrong sound or repeat days. This mixes up daily wake-up alarms with one-off reminders.
Change Start of Week in Calendar
If your Oppo calendar always opens on the wrong weekday, the region-based Start of the week setting is usually the cause. This throws off the weekly grid in the Calendar app, which gets confusing if you are used to a different day as the first one. You can pick Saturday, Sunday or Monday to match your own routine.
Volume Buttons Function for Camera
On Oppo phones, pressing a volume button while the Camera app is open takes a photo instead of adjusting the sound level. This happens because Coloros assigns the buttons to shutter control by default, and the same option can be switched to zoom instead.
Change Default Messaging App
If Messenger or another chat app keeps hijacking your text messages, Coloros still only lets one app act as the default SMS handler at a time. Several installed apps can request that role, which is why replies to notifications sometimes open the wrong client.
