Show or Hide RAM Info in Recent Tasks
When you swipe through open apps on your Oppo phone, the Recent tasks screen only shows app previews by default, with no memory data at all. If you want to see how much RAM is currently in use without opening a separate app or tool, that information stays hidden until you switch it on in Coloros.
Move Apps and Files to an SD Card
When internal storage on your Oppo phone runs low, photos, videos, and even some apps stay stuck on the device even though an SD card is installed. Coloros includes a built-in transfer tool, but it only works with certain file types and not every app is eligible for the move. Knowing which data can actually shift to the memory card helps you free up space without deleting anything you need.
Set Default App Storage to SD Card
Running out of internal storage on your Oppo phone while the SD card sits mostly empty? You cannot install apps directly onto the memory card, but many apps let you redirect new data to it once you set the card as the default storage target. Whether this actually frees up space depends on whether the app itself supports external storage.
Auto Update-Download: Turn On or Off
If your Oppo keeps pulling software updates over mobile data and chewing through your plan, the Auto download setting is usually the reason. This option decides whether updates get fetched automatically in the background and which network is allowed to do it, separately from whether the update actually gets installed.
Turn Google Backup On or Off
If your Oppo phone has stopped saving app data, call logs or Wi-Fi passwords to Google Drive, the Back up my data option is probably switched off. Without it, you lose the ability to restore that data after a factory reset or when setting up a new phone. Switching it back on keeps a running copy of your device data tied to your Google account.
Change Google Backup Account
If your phone backs up to the wrong Google account, storage on that account can fill up fast or you may not find your backup when setting up a new device. This mix-up usually happens after switching Google accounts on the phone without updating the backup destination in Storage and Backup. The good news is the backup account is not locked in and can be swapped at any time.
App Download Preference (Wi-Fi or Mobile Data)
New apps from the Google Play Store only download over Wi-Fi on your Oppo phone by default, and a large install can sit there waiting instead of finishing over mobile data. This is controlled by a setting inside the Play Store itself, not by Coloros. You can allow downloads over mobile data at any time, or set the Play Store to ask you every single time before it uses cellular data.
Format SD Card
If an Oppo phone keeps warning that a memory card is unreadable or unsupported, the card usually needs to be formatted before it works with photos, apps or music. Formatting is also the fastest way to wipe a used SD card clean before selling the device or reusing the card elsewhere. Every file on the card gets deleted permanently, so back up anything important first.
Restore a Local Backup
If your Oppo phone lost apps, photos or settings after a reset, a failed update, or a storage swap, a local backup can bring that data back without starting from scratch. Local restore lets you pick specific data types instead of overwriting everything on the device. This matters when you only need contacts or messages back and want newer files left untouched.
Switch Between 12- and 24-Hour Time Format
If your Oppo phone shows the time in 24-hour format but you expect a 12-hour clock with AM and PM, that is the default ColorOS behavior, not a bug. Some apps and widgets even keep displaying 24-hour time after you change the system clock, which confuses a lot of users. The fix sits in the date and time settings, separate from the region or language options.
Clear App Cache
If an Oppo app keeps loading outdated images, freezes, or your storage fills up faster than expected, a bloated app cache is often the reason. ColorOS stores temporary files like thumbnails and login data so apps open faster, but old or corrupted cache entries can trigger glitches or slow performance. Clearing the cache removes this leftover data without deleting your photos, documents, or app settings.
Expand RAM Using Internal Storage
If your Oppo phone slows down when you switch between several apps, the built-in RAM expansion feature might still be turned off. This function borrows free space from internal storage to act as extra RAM, but it only shows up if enough storage is free and your model supports it. Not every device offers the same expansion size, and the setting can be easy to miss in the menu.
Create a Local Backup (Storage & Backup)
If your internet connection is too slow or unreliable for a cloud backup, or you simply don't want your data stored online, ColorOS lets you save contacts, messages, call logs, system data and installed apps directly on the device. Without a backup, a factory reset or device swap wipes anything that isn't synced to an account. The local backup can be stored in phone storage or on a memory card.
Activate a Downloaded Keyboard
After installing a new keyboard app on your Oppo phone, the system keeps typing with the default keyboard instead. ColorOS keeps every input method, including downloaded keyboards and voice typing, switched off until you turn it on yourself in one central menu. Without that extra step, the new keyboard app sits on your home screen but never appears when you tap a text field.
