Turn Google Play Protect On or Off
If Google Play Protect keeps blocking an app you trust or throws a warning notification every time you install something, the built-in scanner is doing its job a bit too aggressively. On Oppo phones this security check runs in the background by default and can interfere with sideloaded apps or apps from outside the Play Store. Turning the scan off, or back on, changes how much control Android has over what runs on your device.
Number Row On/Off
Typing numbers on the Gboard keyboard normally means holding a key or switching to the symbol page, which slows down anything with PINs, prices or codes. On Oppo phones running Coloros you can pin a dedicated number row above the letters instead. The trade-off is a taller keyboard that leaves less room for the app underneath.
Show or Hide Week Numbers in Calendar
If your Oppo calendar does not show week numbers next to the dates, the setting is simply switched off by default. This option lives inside the calendar app itself, separate from the general phone settings, which is why most people never stumble across it. Without it, planning by calendar week for work or school becomes harder than it needs to be.
Auto-Hide Virtual Navigation Buttons
When you open a game or video player on your Oppo phone, the navigation bar stays fixed along the bottom edge and eats into the display. This happens because the option that lets you hide the on-screen buttons is switched off by default. Until it is turned on, the bar only ever disappears if the app itself forces full-screen mode.
Set Monthly Data Usage Warning
On Oppo phones you can only define a single data warning that shows up once after you cross the limit you set. The mobile data limit has to be switched on first, otherwise the alert never fires. This data warning only exists from ColorOS 7 (Android 10) onward, so older devices wont show the option at all.
Turn SIM Card Lock On or Off
If your Oppo phone asks for a PIN every time it starts up, the SIM card lock is active. You can switch this PIN request on or off in the security settings, but you need the current PIN to change the setting. Without the correct PIN, the SIM stays locked and calls, texts, and mobile data will not work.
Allow Display Over Other Apps
When Messenger, Facebook chat heads or a call app refuse to pop up on top of other apps, the floating windows permission on your Oppo phone is usually switched off. Without this permission the app can only run in the foreground and loses its quick-access overlay. This affects chat bubbles, screen recorders and any tool that needs to draw over your current screen.
Reset App Preferences
If deleting a single app does not free up storage or clear leftover permission conflicts, a full factory reset feels excessive for what is really an app problem. Oppo's Coloros lets you reset only the downloaded apps and their data, leaving pre-installed apps like Gallery, Camera, and Calendar untouched. This option sits right next to the factory reset in the settings menu, so it is easy to trigger the wrong one by mistake.
Turn Mono Audio On or Off
If you only wear one earbud or rely on a single-ear headset, Oppo's default stereo playback can cause you to miss dialogue, notification tones, or background sounds that are mixed to the other channel. This shows up during calls, videos, and games where audio cues are split left and right. Mono audio fixes this by merging both channels into one identical signal.
Turn On or Off the Keyboard Suggestion Strip
If a row of word suggestions keeps popping up above the keyboard while you type, that is the suggestion strip built into Gboard. Oppo phones ship with this bar switched on by default, and tapping a suggested word drops it straight into your text. If the constant suggestions distract you or make typing feel cluttered, you can turn the strip off in the keyboard settings.
Reject a Call with a Quick Response Text
When you cannot pick up but do not want to ignore the caller completely, a plain decline leaves them guessing. On Oppo phones the Reply option lets you send a short text instead of just hanging up. The tricky part is finding where the quick responses live and how to edit them before the call ends.
Create a Contact Group
Oppo's Contacts app only offers a few predefined groups like Family or Friends, and none of them match a specific team, class, or project chat. If you want to call or message the same set of people at once, you need to build that list yourself instead of relying on the default categories.
Set Up and Start Screen Recorder
Screen recording on Oppo starts fine from Quick settings, but the actual recording options are hidden away in a separate menu. If you want to capture system sound, add your microphone, or bump up the video resolution before you hit record, the toggle alone will not get you there. Many users only discover the settings after recording a clip with the wrong audio source or a blurry resolution.
Activate a Downloaded Keyboard
After installing a new keyboard app on your Oppo phone, the system keeps typing with the default keyboard instead. ColorOS keeps every input method, including downloaded keyboards and voice typing, switched off until you turn it on yourself in one central menu. Without that extra step, the new keyboard app sits on your home screen but never appears when you tap a text field.
Sort Contacts by First or Last Name
When some contacts show their first name up front and others their last name, scrolling through your contact list turns into guesswork. This mismatch usually comes from the sorting order set in the Contacts app, not from how each entry was saved. Calls, Messages, and the dialer all follow that same sorting rule.
Auto Switch to Ear Receiver Setting
During calls, your Oppo phone can automatically move audio from the speaker to the earpiece as soon as you lift it to your ear. If this motion control misfires, calls stay on speaker in public or jump to the earpiece when you actually wanted to keep them on speaker, usually because Auto switch to ear receiver is set the wrong way.
Enable Read Text on Images (Select to Speak)
If your Oppo phone reads captions or app text aloud but stays silent on plain images with printed text, the Read text on images option inside Select to Speak is probably switched off. This experimental recognition feature scans photos, screenshots and camera previews for text and speaks it out loud, but it only works once you turn it on manually. Without it, Select to Speak keeps reading interface elements while ignoring text baked into pictures.
Turn On/Off Wake Google Assistant with Power Button
Holding the power button on your Oppo phone unexpectedly launches Google Assistant, or you want that shortcut but nothing happens when you press it. This depends on a single toggle inside Coloros that decides whether a short press on the power button wakes the assistant. If the setting is out of sync with what you actually want, you either get an annoying pop-up every time you lock the screen or lose a quick way to reach Google Assistant.
Manage Displayed Calendar Accounts
If your Oppo calendar mixes personal, work, and synced events from multiple accounts, finding the right appointment gets messy fast. Coloros lets you hide entire accounts or single categories from the calendar view without deleting any data. The setting sits inside the calendar app itself, not in the general account settings.
